Clutch problems, 1993 2wd truck . . . .
So my old POS is acting up on me. Its a 93 pickup, 2wd, 22R-E, 5 speed, about 168k miles on it.
I had the clutch replaced at 158k miles. Before the clutch replacement it was doing the usual slipping at 50+mph in 5th when you put your foot down. Also it released right at the floor. My mechanic said after you drive it a bit, the release point should go up a bit. It never did.
Anyways, the problem is the clutch still releases right at the floor, same as when I bought it before the clutch replacement.
The new problem is an intermittent one. Usually this occurs after sitting in stop/go, under 15mph traffic, on a level surface. The truck starts to magically creep forward with your foot off the brake, clutch pressed in. If you try to shift to neutral, its like the truck is still in gear, ie, you need to whack the shifter and listen to it grind to get into neutral. Occasionally it has stalled out on me with the clutch depressed, in 1st.
So it seems that with the pedal fully depressed the clutch is not fully disengaging from the flywheel.
Also the clutch pedal has felt really soft/spongy when you release it it after sitting at a light, or driving in stop/go traffic. So what do you think is wrong with it?
I'm thinking the hydraulic system in the clutch. Even though the reservoir is full.

I'll bet your clutch pedal bracket is cracked. This is a very common problem with these trucks. Get a flashlight and look carefully at the bracket while pushing the clutch in with your hand. If the bracket flexes, it's broken. There are several threads here on how to fix this, so a search will yield plenty of information. When my clutch pedal bracket broke I took it to a welding shop and they fixed it in exchange for a couple boxes of donuts. Hopefully you can get the same deal.
