Clutch diagnosis?

Hi all,

I recently have been having problems with the clutch on my '93 v6 4x4 pickup. The problem started with the clutch pedal remaining depressed after shifting gears. I tried cleaning the push rod that goes through the bushing incase that's how it was getting hung up but it has not helped. Also the clutch seems to be going from fully disengaged to fully engaged in a very small throw of the clutch. I have adjusted the push rod length but it has not helped. The clutch pedal remains depressed after pushing it and I have even had trouble getting the clutch to disengage while in gear. I am wondering what the possible problems could be. Less than two years ago I replaced both the clutch and most of the hydraulic system (master cyl, etc.) Does any one have any suggestions? I have made sure that there is adequate brake fluid in my resovoir as well. It doesnt seem like the clutch has air in the lines but I guess that could be a problem.

Thanks,
Kelly

Did you replace the clutch slave cylinder (also called the "operating cylinder")? It's located on the bellhousing infront of the tranny and it pushes the clutch release arm. Usually fails same time as the master but not always. Also, bleeding the clutch lines again wouldnt hurt.

Check the return spring on your clutch pedal, requires a bit of rubber necking and a small flashlight and some cuss words but it could of popped off.

Otherwise the problem lies within the bellhousing.

It's on the passenger side of the transmission. It moves a little "arm" that comes out of the side.

I'd check to see if that arm is pressing the slave cylinder in.. If not, you've got a clutch problem.

I've had several autozone slave cyl and master cyls fail.. They're "reman" parts.. Slave and master I now only buy OEM toyota.
Marlin carries a new style master cyl - havent tried it yet.
