hey guys, i got done with my engine rebuild and it has about 500 miles on it now. runs great. the only thing is that i can tell that they clutch is off just a hair because when i let the clutch out it vibrates pretty good. i didnt replace the clutch when i did the engine so i just eyed it back on. i was wondering if there is anywhere that i can buy just the alignment tool? or is there anybody on yotatech that has one i can buy from them?

If the clutch is on there and you are driving it there is no need for the clutch alignment tool. That is merely to align the clutch when installing it on the engine. If you eyeballed it in place you got luck when installing the engine. I have tried that may times and failed.

There has got to be another problem to your vibrations. Did you have your clutch pressure plate resurfaced when you rebuilt the engine without replacing your clutch?? That may be your problem.

But anyway an alignment tool can be had at any autoparts store.

 

i didnt have the clutch pressure plate resufaced or anything. it is a pretty good vibration, shakes my whole truck when letting the clutch in and out. i just wondered if the clutch wasnt lined up perfect and that causes it to be off balance and shake liek that. this problem didnt occur before i did the rebuild either

 

The vibration you are experiencing is called clutch chatter. It can be indirectly caused by several factors, but more than likely, your flywheel needs to be re-surfaced. Does it do it every time you shift? Mine does going from stop to 1st in the morning once or twice when it's cold out. Have you noticed any slipping in the clutch at all? If so, you're in for a clutch job sometime rather soon.

 

Yup. I agree with rpeAMP. When the motor was out was the time to do the clutch.

I am doing a rebuild as we speak. The truck just had a clutch put in it before the motor spun a rod bearing. It actually looks like I just bought it so I'm considering putting it back in with this one. Maybe I'll spring for the few extra $$$ and put another new one in. I haven't decided.

It's still a godd question though. Can you even get the tool by itself? Has anyone made one out of a broom handle or something? If so I would be interested as well.

 

Yes you can get the tool stand alone. But depending on the brand of clutch you buy sometimes they come with the alignment tool.

if your clutch works at all, an alignment tool isn't gonna help you...all that it does is center the clutch disk while the pressure plate is clamped down, so it's easier to stab the tranny into it.

if the flywheel wasn't resurfaced i'd say that's the problem.

 

i am thinking that it is teh flywheel. do they make many aftermarket flywheels for these things? i am gonna check around and see if i can find a lighter one

you can buy heavier and lighter flywheels, but i like the stock weight fine. the aftermarket ones are expensive!
