I have heard that carb cleaner or evena torch can clean 02 sensors.. Can anyone tell me a safe way to clean one and get all the gunk and sut off it?

I did some research online for this a while back, and carb cleaner seems to be the best way. Carb cleaner and a wire brush.

 

Thats also what I heard. but them someone told me that the actaully sensor tip is so small and hidden that it wouldnt work.. I guess the debate is still out.. anyone??

 

How many miles on it? If high, just get a new one and watch your fuel mileage skyrocket!

 

I've used a torch, but it only lasted 4 months and when I tried again it didn't work the second time.

 

thanks for the input guys.. It seems the 02 sensors are the originals and the truck has 235k on it.. I just bought it last year as a project and now I need it to pass emissions...
I went ahead and got the new ones at lunch break today.. Lets hope the sluggish idle and terrible gas mileage get better...

 

wow. I'd replace it. I think mine are the originals as well. I'd only clean it as a last resort while new ones are being ordered.

 

did you check the wiring like I suggested on your other thread?
like I said, code 21 and 27 are heater related for the front and rear sensors, respectively... since you got both codes, I'd check for voltage at the heater connectors to make sure those are working, and you can also check the resistance of the heaters on the sensors.
