Child Seats in a Gen1 4Runner

Search Terms:
LATCH, Child Seat, Tether

This link started my interest
http://www.top4runners.com/ja/additions1.html

Note the use of the Toyota part 73709-12010

I have NOT confirmed that there is a threaded hole for the tether, but I am pretty sure there is one.
That is because in my many times under the 4Runner - I have noted the presence of TWO "nut plates" placed roughly above the rear axle and centered equidistant between the wheel wells.
[I just crawled under the 4Runner - there are THREE threaded plates - as described in the Owners Manual
two are centerd and eqidistant
one is closer to the front and on the passenger side ONLY]

I guessing that these threaded nut plates are for the top tether anchor positions.

I know - why not use a "loop adapter" and the roll bar (the Britax came with a loop adapter, but the Recaro Start did not)...well - I want to do it right.

Also - there is Toyota Belt Shortening Clip (not needed for the 4Runner as the belts are the old skool type that LOCK)
73119-22010

I'll post up pics after I get the parts and do the install

This link is helpful

http://www.toyotanation.com/faq/download/gen4-tsb.pdf

see around page 28 - it shows the Owners Manual Page number for the location of the tether bolts.

After reading the owners manual - DOH

It looks like the Gen1 4Runners had a nutserts for the rear seat top tethers and one more forward for use of a top tether on a 2 seat model on the passenger side.

FYI - chart goes to 2000
Taco is N/A
Gen2 (85+) and Gen3 (89+) trucks have a listing...
I'll order the bolts and then get pics of the install

Sorry about that, usually it'll boot up stuff into adobe. I directly inputed into adobe and it worked fine!! Have you gotten a price for the anchor bracket yet? Thanks.

in my 2nd Gen I used the top tether strap hooked into the rear cargo hook/loop by the wheel well. Might get in the way if you haul a bunch of stuff in the back.

Pic of the underside...

The "oval" looking things with the nut serts in em - thats where the tether bolts go to...

Eagled eye types will notice
-- new brake hard lines to LSPV
-- RUST
-- Coro-less paint slapped on the frame
-- SS flex line to rear axle
-- blue hose for remote res shock (Bilstein 7100 10" stroke short can)

The above is the only correct way to install a forward facing car seat Ina 1st/2nd generation 4Runner. The part cost $12-$18 from your local dealer. If you have the strap routed any other way or attached to any other position you need to consult your car seat manual ASAP! Your child's life could be in danger and you could be held liable in the event if there death.

Thanks for the Pic of the part with the part number.

That part is what I used as well. The 4Runner was only use 21-2 times with child seats. Then the 4Runner went into storage.
Now they kids are like 9-10 (but are small for their age - so they are in boosters) and they have NOT taken a ride in the 4Runner.
