Check Engine Light?
#41
But it doesn't get all gutless when the CEL comes on? If it does, that's your ECU seeing a (faulty) signal from KS and retarding timing to protect the engine.

Read all of the repair how-to's in there, but this is specific to what you need. Aaaand...go!

K. TPS is probably outta whack, and timing could be advanced too far, making KS kick in and retard timing.
Its also impossible to set timing if TPS isn't set right.

Ok combat read the tech notes sdays put in jumper and do i rev it to 750 or turn idle screw till its at 750. But I don't have a tach so really cant tell RPM's. Or do I need a timing light? Sorry for the stupid ?'s

Ok, so its running and fully warmed up. That part is critical.
1. Insert jumper
2. Observe slight rpm drop, 50~ish
3. Set timing at 5* BTDC
4. Remove jumper, observe slight rpm increase
5. Set/check/adjust idle
6. Check/readjust timing if needed. (Again, with jumper installed)
If you don't get a slight idle down with jumper inserted, you have to first spec the TPS. If it doesn't idle down, the ECU doesn't know the throttle is closed, and will not allow you to set timing correctly.
