Check before I rebuild the carb

I came into an '86 5 speed pickup with a 22R. I got it with 230000 miles, a blown head gasket, a worn timing chain, and a clutch down to the rivets. I did all the work and fired it up...it idled like crap. I pulled the carb and found the passenger side butterfly completely crusted shut. I've done the best I can cleaning and adjusting the carb without taking it apart, but it's not good. Before I freed and cleaned up what I could it idled rough. Now it idles high, and I can't adjust it down. If I leave it running for more than about 10 seconds it stumbles and dies. I'm sure a carb rebuild will cure my woes, but I'm looking at at least a week wait on parts. I checked timing, compression is around 155 across the board, valve clearances adjusted, vacuum is 20 with no apparent leaks. Anything else I should check before tear into the carb? Also, when I cleaned the carb I pulled the passenger side butterfly pivot shaft out of the carb. I didn't see any seals in there, did I miss something?

I cant give you any advice as to what to do, I just found my own rough idle problem is due to air leaking through strange places in the carb, apparently quite a bit through the fuel banjo seals. I guess I'd check there too if I was you, along with other place that may leak air
