Has anyone ever seen this before?? this plugs directly into the fuel pump of my 94 SR5 4runner inside the tank. Background story, was gone on vacation for 6 days, left 4runner in driveway. Was running perfect when I left, got back and went to fire it up....and nodda. Through the process of elimination I found myself in the neighborhood of the fuel system. Something obviously went wrong, any ideas??

 

well if the fuel pump went bad, it could pull too many amps and obviously something gives
I guess it didn't pull quite enough amps to blow the fuse but got hot enough to melt the plug... old tired plastic just sucks!

i actually dont know how to help, i just wanted to post here and say thats pretty scary to see that. your rig was pretty close to....well....you know

Yeah I'm not really sure what to think of it....it was truely a "ummm......huh...WTF??...." kind of moment. So needless to say, I will be checking all the wiring associated with the fuel pump. All relays are good and operational I might add..correct fuses used etc etc...

 

it may have been a poor connection that overheated the connector.

 

It looks like it could have been a bad connection, just worked itself loose maybe? ....who knows, I'm just glad I didn't have a big heap of yota crisp.

 

so an update.....fuel pump was GOOD, maybe the banging around that happened whilst taking it out broke it free, who knows. Connected fuel pump directly to battery and hummed like a winner, checked all relays the same way, clicked when energized and had continuity where it was supposed to. Wiring was all good as well, checked for shorts to ground etc etc. So, know trying to track down a fuel pump bracket, used preferably, new ones run in the ballpark of about $130...unfortunately replacing that is the only option when it comes to that particular piece of hardware. The plug that got fried and the associated wiring is riveted to the bracket itself. Ugh.....what a mess...

 

I wouldn't mess around with the fuel tank, I would pay the $130 for a new fuel pump bracket for a new inside the tank plug, just get a new one!!!! $130 sounds good, the toyotapartszone.com site the bracket is $142...

 

yeah, the more I think about it the less I want to be throwing used parts in there. I'll be putting new stuff on there so I don't have to go threw this whole headache again.

Issue resolved. Brand new fuel pump bracket and fuel pump. Fired right up. Next project...
