charge and brake light

What else can cause the charge and brake light to both come on at the same time randomly?

Its an 86 4runner. SR5. It has a brand new battery and brand new alternator. Sometimes the volt gauge flickers and the lights go dim. But the lights won't come on. Other times. They will. But the minute after I put in my new alternator everything went away. Then this afternoon on thw drive home. The volt gauge was at normal and the brake and charge light came on. All gauges in my truck read 14.4 volts. So I turned the key off. Then back on. Then they went away for abt 5 min. Then came back on. I have been doing this repeatdely. And they seem to come on randomly.

Sometimes the gauge will drop and read 10 volts.

I do not hear a squeak for a belt slipping. Can a belt still slip and not make aby noises?

Why do the lights come on but the gauge still read 14.4 volts??

Could my new alternator be defective? Loose plug? Bad connection for wire that provides voltage to alternator. (On the stud)

I added an extra 8 gauge wire from my alternator to the battery. It helps with the voltage drop. The 60 amp alternator is a little weak, especially if you are running accessories. My next upgrade will be an MR2 100 amp alternator. You can leave the original wire hooked up, just run an additional wire. Best of luck.

you might try checking the ground wires. they can cause all types of problems.
