Ceramic coating or wrap headers?
#22
Bajaconcept's is a reseller of Downey Headers. I went to their shop and physically checked out the headers I bought before I bought them. Fully warrantied and supported by Downey. When I bought mine I ended up missing a crush sleeve for the EGR valve. A quick call to Downey and fax of my proof of purchase I had a new crush sleeve in a few days.

thats pretty sweet. less money i have to save up. I've been thinking about headers for some time now. im starting to save. quick question. are the pipes that bring the two headers together and connect to the cat included? or do i need to have those made by a shop?
#24
The "Y" pipe is something seperate. Downey sells one but any good exhaust shop can fab one up a lot cheaper for you! If you are close to the FallBrook area (northern San Diego) I suggest you head on down to there shop and check it out in person. Small and personal, but leave the Check book and credit cards at home. Just bring enough cash for what you plan on buying!

i'm a little north of san diego. i live 30 miles out of Sacramento or else i would check them out. i've never done work like this on my truck. 4 of my friends have 5.0 mustangs and 3 have put headers on themselves. hopefully they can help me out. how good of a performace boost do you feel? seat of the pants? i like what my cat back did for my pep. i hope that headers can help even more.

I wouldn't say "seat of my pants" but they do help. My problem is I went from a "stock" 3vz-e v6 with a burnt number 6 cylinder to a rebuild of the top end, oversized valves, K&N drop in air filter, resurfaced heads, the Headers, and full Hi performance Cat back and muffler. So I was thrilled with the performance gain.

I just paid more than what's listed on their website and I called and told him I heard of them here.
It was still cheaper than Downey's price by far, but I wonder why we're all getting different prices?
Can you post here or PM me what you paid?:pat:
thanks,
Mike

EWONG -- Can you explain your circumstances and what happened as a result?
MIKE -- I got the Ceramic Version of the Downey Headers(for 409) with the X-over(for 105) with a shipping charge of 17 bucks -- total was 530 shipped --- I felt like I got a decent deal although i was still not happy about there website ethics.

i have downeys ceramic header for my 22re and they are cool. i can keep my hand and inch away with no problems. From what i heard if you wrap headers it causes them to heat up and it will actually reduce the flow becuase there is so much friction/ heat in there so then your better off with the stock manifold, they will also rust out much faster

I don't know if it helps or impeds flow or not.. Certainly it's not worth the 1% gain or loss either way simply due to the fact that header wrap is really hard on whatever is under it.
Ceramic is the way to go - it'll help those headers last a long time..
I wrapped a header once, only to see it fail within a year. I'll never do it again. I do ceramics now - only the stuff that HAS to be wraped due to heat issues (like a fat downpipe in a tight engine compartment) gets wrapped.
