So I went through a bunch of old posts and I found a mount I really like but I can’t read the numbers off the mount in the photo I’ll attach or I’m reading them wrong or it’s not around anymore.
What are you using for a cell phone mount. I like the placement of this piece. I would like to access my phone/Spotify hands free.
Let’s see what you got if you have something better.
Ram Mount suction cupped to windshield, left of steering wheel. Holds my phone secure on really rough and bumpy dirt roads and trails. Have one on my motorcycle too, wont use anything else.
Pro-fit mount. Corey's truck is pictured. He's got an FJ now.
I made my bracket out of a scrap piece of aluminum to keep it stiff enough for off-road, then added a PanaVise PortaGrip 15575.
Similar could be made out of steel. How it would attach depends on what you have.
Finally found a vent mount that never slides out or moves, it clamps on from the rear fin and can't fall off. A very snug fit thru the small vent holes between fins in our trucks but once it is in, it will never fall out:
With the various types of head units these days, you can buy one in a double din configuration with bluetooth and not need to even take your phone out of your pocket.
I went through half a dozen different mounts and hated them all. Finally came across a Mob Armour mount at Yodaman when getting my Runner fixed and I couldn't be happier, easily the best mount I've ever used. It will mount magnetically or with a sticker so the surface can be metal or plastic.
The post kept timing out so I'll complete it here. I moved the defroster switch down to the center console. The magnet that holds the phone is extremely strong and in fact, the mount is marketed towards off-roaders for how well it holds the phone even in extreme conditions. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny in my opinion.
We have one like that in our 4Runner. My wife is the main user, so we stuck it over beside the glove box, under the vent. It works perfectly.
I won't touch a cell phone unless I'm parked someplace, so that works best. Ready access for my wife to use the cell phone while we drive, and if I'm alone, by some odd chance, it's out of my way, but reachable once I get stopped.
We also hang our masks off it. Keeps them available, but again, out of the way.
