Celica Vs. Truck -- 22RE FI Differences?

So you know, I have a 1990 Pickup, 22RE FI w/ 5-speed. I figure the best source of technical info will be with Celica tuners, so that's why I'm here

I was posting on another forum for some idle assistance, when some thoughts came up from some people about the differences between the truck and car versions. Some of the comments:

Hopefully we don't have to trouble-shoot the 2 red & 1 blue VSV's (Vaccum Switching Valves) on top of the valve cover. Celicas didn't get them. I'm ass-u-ming this is in a truck (or at the very least, transplanted FROM a truck).
and

t's gotta be a truck the intake runs in front of the engine. that or he moved the battery to the trunk
So let me ask you some things... what *are* the differences between the truck and the car? Why would they change things? Is it just the location of things (like intake, solenoids, etc), or are there actual configuration differences?

I'm curious because I do indeed plan to tune the engine in the future, and I want to know some of the key differences between the two.

The 22re's through 84 (and possibly some 85) used an analog fuel injection system. After 85 the system is digital. 85 also happened to be the last year of the rwd celica. The change from analog to digital EFI accounts for most of the differences in sensors and the like between the celica and truck.

There was also a cylinder block and head change from '84 -> '85. The '84 cylinder block is a bit taller with the wrist pin just a bit lower on the piston. The '84 block can use a double row timing chain from the 20R without having to modify the chain cover (the oil pump drive spline on the double row is shorter & that also needs to be put on).

also the celica had fuel injection in 83/84 and possibly earlier, where it wasn't available in the pickup until 85, when the block style was changed.

The Celica 22re won't have a 4wd signal wire to the ecu.

Here's a page from a well known toyota tuning shop:
http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20...tech_notes.htm
it covers the basic evolution of the 20r/22r/22re. there is some tuning tips as well in there and suggestions for mods. they also sell kits for the engines.
