CB in your 80's yota?
Maybe the wrong forum but not sure where else this would apply so here goes.
I got a Cobra 25 Night watch CB for Xmas. (pretty sweet with the green lights!!) I wanted/need a CB it's just safer for off-roading solo or not. CB's just make sense for travelling in remote areas.
Ok, I got a 3ft Firestick antenna and have read a ˟˟˟˟˟load on CB installations and antenna placement. Fire Stiks website has some great info btw. Tomorrow im going to get the 18ft of Coax and an SWR inline meter. Oh, reminds i gotta call firestick because the "bare-hand" adjusting screw is FUXORED up (threads are smashed in the center WTF?).
Im thinking about putting the antenna on my bed, somewhere as I don't really appreciate it being on my front fender like the AM/FM antenna is, i just dont like that look, i like the antenna behind me. anyways back to the point.
Has anyone else had success in gracefully placing a CB in their 80's (84-88) style single (bench seat) cab???? With a bench seat I eliminate placing it vertical in a center console, on-dash is bulky and theres no real place to guide the large coax cable and they are narrow dashes. ...but im open to ideas and suggestions and creativity!!!
I was thinking about putting it below the stereo in the cubby below that? Would require some dremel/cutting work but might be clean and out of the way? Anyone tried this?
So bottom line is WHERE DO YOU GUYS PUT YOUR CB'S?!!
thanks!!

Not sure if it helps but on my little bros Heep we put it on a cross bar at the top of the cab. But like I said it'a a Heep so they make those bars for that type of thing. Just an Idea and if nothing more a bump for your thread.

The one in my 83 is not hooked up right now but i have it set up on the tranny hump passenger side. Power is loomed down from behind radio, and antenna goes under carpet to antenna mount behind cab.

CB in Dash
I took the "ash tray" out of the dash and put my CB into the opening. That way its up above the "high water mark" lol. I'll post a pic if i can find a way to make one small enough to fit the forum rules.http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r...B%20in%20dash/ 1eye.

I've got a 99, so this may not not help. I'm running a Magnum S-9 10 meter set to run AM with upper and lowers and a 10hz swing. I mounted on side of shifter consule due to the size of unit. the beast is running wires and coax under carpet. I do however run a optima blue jumped to a 6v red top to power the dave made 2 pill amp with a texas star driver. I dead key 1watt swing 1000, abit over leagal, hah hah. but fit it where it's easy to reach but allows unit to heat up and breathe. If not you'll have a marshmellow one day. oh far better coverage than a cell and there's tons of people that just sit and listen to help you out.

I put mine in the cubby hole underneath the radio. You may have a problem fitting that unit in there but it may work. I bought a Cobra 18 WX ST II I believe (not sure on the model but something like that) specifically because it was very close to a DIN receiver in dimensions and it had a front firing speaker (you could use an external speaker also). It took a little trimming around the hole and some ingenuity to get it mounted but it was very worth it. It makes the interior so much cleaner. I don't know why I don't have a pic of it, I will try to grab one tomorrow. There are a few others that have done it and did write ups but I can't seem to find them right now. I searched around and found this pic in another thread (not much real info but had a pic that basically looks like mine.. same model cb):

Here's what I did.
I got rid of the surround for the shifter and installed it below the stereo and din space.
This allows me to retain my little cubby hole. I made brackets from aluminum to mount the cb to the surround brackets.

got any pics of that set up nc99t4r i have been trying to set up my galaxy dx99v but when i set it on the side of the shift housing it sits to close and i cant shift into 4 wheel.I will also be adding into the mix my texas star 666 and should put out as much but most like more watts as yours and i have fm with uppers and lowers for both bands plus all the slide you could want goona hook it to a 102" whip off the rear bumper and support the middle to keep it from swinging all over to my rack and of course the trusty ol tennis ball to keep the paint for taking a beating.

The 25 is a great radio but pretty big for the console. Here's a few ideas:

thanks guys!
Im going to end up putting it under my stereo in that cubby. I have speakers on my doors so i can't door mount, not enough above head room and impossible on the tranny hump, just not enough room there. And the unit is to large to mount UNDER the cubby behind the shifter, and just doesnt look right ontop of the dash.
to big to make it fit in the ash tray and id like to keep my 12v outlet there =)
Ill take pics of the process and post some when im all done. Hard part now is finding a damn radio shop in town or near here. I'd like to avoid radiocrap.. er radioshack!

If you're looking for a semi-permanent spot and you have a bracket you could zip-tie the bracket to the metal bar that the glove compartment lid attaches to. There is just enough room to snake a tie through. Then just attach with the thumbscrews and go. No holes, no cutting and easy to remove if you need to. I'll post up a pic if I can...
I used to have mine under my CD player but found that the radio's proximity was introducing static. I have a Cobra 19 DX II that has served me very well in the past...
