I can't get my truck to start after I took the A/C components out. I tried catching it in gear in reverse and it would turn but not stay running. I grounded the negative cable to the block and when I try to start it, the solenoid clicks. The battery has a full charge and the starter is a reman that is 2 weeks old. Do I need to tie in a ground to the frame as well? I don't understand how taking the a/c off and changing the ground location could affect my truck not starting. Thanks in advance!

 

No....the block is adequate. Sounds like you just don't have a good connection. Make sure everything is real clean and tight and try again.

 

Thook, I am gonna replace my old pos. cable and clean up some connections and give it a try. I will let you know how it goes. I want to take it to the mountains today but it doesn't look like its gonna make it.

your block does need to be grounded to the frame at some point yes. if you have a DMM (digitial multimeter) put it on the ohms setting and put one lead on your negative terminal and one lead on a clean place on your block and see if there is continuity, if not thats your problem. do this same thing for the frame and chassis also just to be sure there isnt some other ground issue.

if you dont have a DMM they are like $5 at any autoparts store.

 

Really? None of my 4rnr's came with a ground strap from block to frame. Even still, that would not keep it from starting.

 

yeah, deffinately check your + cables... they seem to have a tendency to corrode away from the inside out, and while removing the AC components, you may have brushed up against it and moved it the wrong way to were it's no longer sending power to the starer like it should

 

I replaced the positive battery cable and cleaned up some connections and now she's turning over. The bad news is, it won't fire up. I am happy that it's finally trying to start but out of one hole and into the next. Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to check? Could I have messed something up while removing the a/c and not know? The belt for the A/C not being there wouldn't cause it not to start would it? Thanks and if you can't tell I just got this truck so I'm cutting my teeth on it.... sure is fun!
