can't seem to find ADD to manual conversion kit anywhere....

Want to convert ADD to manual.... Seems difficult finding the kit. I have looked most places I can think of but noone lists anything for the ADD. They do say from automatic to manual, Not for use on disconnecting differential. WTF...anyways...I would like to buy online or used (I can get it through the local 4x4 shop but you know what they want for em is like 350% mark up.

check here, pirate4x4 and marlin crawler boards in the classified sections. Lots of guys have those laying around after doing straight axle swaps and many will just give them to you to get rid of them. I got mine for $100 for differential with lockright in it, and a set of manual hubs.

All you have to do is pop off the add flanges and bolt manual hubs on.

If you want to you can replace that add shift tube on the front diff with a non-add style one.

Yeah, you don't need a kit with the ADD system. You only need a kit if you had auto locking hubs, which are totally different than the ADD system. Toyota only used the auto hubs for like 2 model years, '87-'88.

ADD is a simple swap.

Yup, no kit needed. Unbolt old hubs, bolt on new hubs.

Oh I thought that you were looking to change the tube and everything. If just wanting manual hubs then just change those.

I opted to change the tube and all.

Again, many laying around. I needed 4.56 gears but if you need 4.11(whatever it is) much more common and you'll find tons if you look around. I had many guys offer to give me a matching rear third if I would take all their front stuff away but I didnt want to go from 4.56 to 4.11

I would'nt go with the Warns clod they just are'nt that robust a part... the Aisins are much better and are also factory original part which means no support issues at all...
check the classifieds here there are usually several sets avail. other then that Wabfab sells them rebuilt and ready to install at a very reasonable price...

I here this all the time but is there any truth to it? I have all Aisin on my trucks but when I was a chevy guy I had all Warns stuff and never had a problem. Does anyone have a good argument (engineering wise) as to why asins are better?

I stay with them because they are factory Toyota but is there really a difference in quality?

Manual hubs on a Toyota are designed to use a cone washer to transfer a shear loading to a tensional force. The Aisin manual hubs are set up to use the cone washers as there is a taper in the hub flange.

WARNs do not use the cone washers. I have seen DOZENS of WARNS on Toyotas and every single pair I have been able to check had at least ONE loose hub stud nut. WARNS simple do not stay tight with the fastening system they use on Toyotas and thus they bust the studs or bust themselves from being loose.

On other vehicles, don't know don't care, but on Toyotas WARN manual hubs suck.

So what would be the ramification, if any, if say someone (not me of course) accidentally kicked said cone washer somewhere and couldnt find it and had to get the truck on the road and someone drove around with only 5 cone washers instead of 6? Again, not me but someone

No serious issues for a while but it certainly wouldn't hurt to get a replacement as soon as you can.

Driving it on the road won't cause any issues. But you will want to replace that cone washer before you go wheeling again.
