cant remove turbo from exhaust manifold

in my 87 turbo, i need to fix an exhaust leak between the turbo and the manifold. Unfortunately I cant unscrew the turbo from the exhaust, the nuts just wont budge. Do I need to let the vehicle run to get it hot first or what…

OK mr wells I fixed your stealth post so folks can see it... fyi don't select black as a colour when you are posting the default screen colour is black also so no one will be able to read it... if you just type it will show up as white on the screen when you post... if you need to use a colour for your screen setting try yellow/orange they will show up well also...

Letting it run for a bit would be one way to heat it up but then the turbo housing will get hot as well which might make it hard to work with... you could use a torch to provide spot heat which would help to loosen the bolts but be careful too much heat might lead to warping...
also try some lubricants like WD40 or LPS2 or a similar product.

oh and welcome to the family

I'd suggest PB Blaster in ample quantities and some time to let it soak in.

PB Blaster (or similar) is going to be your best bet. WD-40 is useless.

Sometimes, things are just too rusted and your best efforts just won't get them. Try the spot heating method, with the PB Blaster, add some leverage, and it should pop loose.

Soak the fasteners with Liquid Wrench or similar for a while or just buckle down and be prepared to break/replace them.

liquid wrench worked great. all nuts came off relitivly easy. now i just got to figure out how to slide the manifold to the side off the engine and up off the turbo at the same time
