I want to change out my lower control arm bushings but can only find lower front control arm bushings in poli and OEM but no rear bushings. Almost all list their bushings as a kit but when I receive it their "kit" is only one bushing, really getting frustrated. Anyone know where I can find the rears without going to the dealer? Do I even need to change them? Thanks.

Is there a reason you don't want to go to a dealer? (the site cited above is a dealer in Florida).

The bushings are not a maintenance item, so only you would know why you would want to change them.

 

I will look at the rear again and see if they are the same. Are you say they are not a maintenance item as if they need to be lubed or not a maintenance item because they do not need to be replaced? I believe you are referring to the rear and not the front as my front lower control arm bushings are shot and need to replaced badly. The reason I prefer not to go to the dealer is because often the parts are significantly more expensive than after market brands and most after market brands can and will do as well as or a better job than the OEM part.

 

"maintenance items" are items you service on a schedule: oil, air filter, brake fluid, O2 sensor. You CAN look at your oil and decide whether to replace it, but the manual says to just do it every 7,500miles. There's no similar schedule for bushings, but if they're "shot" you replace them. You asked whether you needed to change yours; how would we know?

In the bad-ole-days we all avoided the dealerships, because we had heard they were very expensive. Then someone invented this thing called the internet; you can compare the $48.45 from Lakeland Toyota with whatever other prices you can find. All while sitting on your butt. (and I agree that many after market brands are "as good as" OEM parts, and for those it's a question of price and availability).

 

I suspected that is what you referring to when you said maintenance. I have learned in forums it's important to ask for clarification and not assume. I just wanted to be sure. Yes I know they are not maintenance parts.

Being from a dealership I don't know the answer to the question I asked. I know that if they are worn I need to replace them but I don't know what the manual says. It's better to ask the question than not and do something I will regret later. So, best to ask, especially if talking to someone from a dealership. I know you are probably not a mechanic but I don't know if you can look it up like you can a part number. So I ask...

I have been doing some considerable comparing on the internet and found OEM replacements (they are not from Toyota) from 23.95 (OEM from MOOG) to around 60.00.

Moog was the go to Suspension parts leader for years.

Now since there parts are made for the Most in China it would be my last option if the dealer obsoleted that part.

I'm confused here. Are we talking truck or 4runner???


From description it sounds like the rear control arms on a 4runner since the trucks use leaf springs in the rear.


If we are talking truck then the only control arms are in the front, if this is the case Energy Suspension makes a polyurethane kit which contains all 8 bushings. For 89 - 95 it is part #8.3108. Have to use existing shells. Relatively cheap, Amazon usually carries it.


If OEM, they have to be bought separately.


The uppers, the 2 front are identical, and the 2 rears are identical. Another route that can be taken for the upper arms is to buy the control arm shaft assemblies which include the upper control arm bushings, nuts, washers, and shafts.


For the lower control arms, all(4) of the bushings are identical.


Scope103 posted a link which will show you all the OEM part numbers for the upper and lower arms or use someone like RockAuto and get aftermarket.


Regardless of which route you chose get new nuts for the upper control arm shafts, unless purchasing the shaft assemblies, 4 total. Toyota part #90179-18004.
