I haven't seen a lot of happy-ending 3vze rebuilds other than NUNSA. The point is that for what a good rebuild on the 3.0 costs, you can buy a half-cut diesel, do a swap and wind up with a pretty great engine for wheeling.

can a 3.slow be made 3.fast

sorta......got mine pushing 185hp....spectre cold air intake, wolf ecu...custom headers. does alright, goes anywhere, climbs i80 reno into tahoe at an easy 75mph, getting 20-22mpg, upgrades on injectors, fuel rails, leads etc. truck needed a valve job at $3500, so did the rest for another 2k and she goes better than I could have ever believed......
that being said, am planning a 1uzfe ls 400 lexus v8 upgrade....cost about 5k
will push 250hp plus with extras.

Sorry the link doesn't seem to work. Check out DOA RAcing web site and V6 induction.

You're also talking about an engine that was the first V6 that Toyota ever produced. So there are a few things going against it. I think the 5 speed moves the truck fine with a stock engine as long as everything is tuned up properly.

The other thing to consider is when you do engine modifications, the more displacement you have, the more of a difference it will usually make. Why do you think Borla claims a "5% increase" with their Turbo Mufflers, accross the board. They make no mention of the type of engine or anything like that (as an example).

Everyone always has in the back of their mind the small displacement car engines that have all this horsepower. The 3vzfe comes to mind (3 liter, DOHC found in the Camry). Well first off, it's tuned as a car engine. Car engines have bigger bores, less stroke, often times, and so need to rev the crap out of it to get things moving and that's when they move good. Truck engines move things down low where torque is needed. Find me a 3 liter displacment engine that is tuned like a truck engine should be, that makes more horsepower and torque as the 3vze (and I'm talking similar technologies here, no DOHC, or VVT-i).
the fe motor fas the same crank, block, and rods that the 3vze has. same bore, same stroke. it actually makes more torque sooner at a flatter band than the vze motor and make 35 more hp from the factory. really the only difference is the 4 valve heads, the same heads used on the 3.4 so with that being said the 3vzfe is a 3 litre 3.4 pretty much. toyota should have used those heads on the 3vze in the 4runners

Browse around here, you'll find I'm not the only fool he suckered (though it doesn't make me feel any better.) They ran his ass out of Calif and he moved clear accross country to NC. Check the BBB in CA on DOA, you'll find a list of complaints a mile long.

Tim's POS blew in less than 1000 miles - rod knock. He told me to ship it to him and he'd take care of it. BUT before it even arrived, he left a message on my answering machine that I was going to pay for this one. Then his 'inspection' found sawdust in the upper plenum (fresh dust, obviously from crating it) and he claimed it was my fault the engine died and this sawdust was the cause. BS. Then charged me $1500 for his 'inspection'. I had to pay to get my ลลลล back.
The crook knew that suing accross country is a prohibively expensive task and he just plain screwed me.

Rebuilt it again here on a tight budget (another $1.5k) fixing the rod and reusing as much as possible and it blew again. We then threw most of Tim's stuff in the trash (block, crank, rods,...) and rebuilt it again (another $3k.) Almost a year of downtime. And all that's not even including all the crap I bought like headers, exhaust, CF clutch and more.

All in all, over $10k in this motor (and now rebuilding it again from a burned piston after only 30kmi - the cause of which seems to be a failed knock sensor, est: $2.5k.) I'm doing even more to it this time and once it's done I'll have the brightest shiniest turd around. I fully expect it to be the fastest of the slugs.

If I seem a bit bitter about the 3.slow, perhaps this will explain why. I really want to do a conversion, but w/ my driveway tilted and no room in the garage it's just not the right time - and I really need my truck running too. But that time is coming soon. If you can wait, I'll be selling a whole system that's proven - no easy task w/ the slow.

My advise to anyone considering trying to get high performance out of a 3VZE to think long and hard before you do. If you have the space & time to do it a conversion will be way cheaper in the long run.
