The 261 is a great cam; I installed it during my rebuild, along with the new head with oversized valves

Reground OEM cam from 22repreformance. Have no idea what the exact measurements are, but it is a nice mix of power and torque throughout the entire RPM band.

The premise of this thread is that I have two cams: OEM Reground and a Stock Engine Builder cam sitting here. I'm thinking since both are stock, I might as well use the OEM, right? I've just heard different stories on both ends.

I used the 268 on my rebuild with the L.C. E. pro street head oversized valves and all, I think I got what bleeder is missing on the top end other then that I think we have the same rpm and torque range otherwise.

90 miles per hour in 5th gear with 35 x12.5's 5.29 gears @around 3300 rpm got to love it.

Hmmm I thought the stock enginebuilder cam and stock OEM reground would have the exact specifications?

You'd think. I would too.

One way to be sure they're the same...

See page EG1-28 in the FSM for the specs. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../7cylinder.pdf

There's atleast 101 22RE aftermarket cams. And virtually 0 for the 3VZE, special order only. I can't recommend any cams for either. But I can tell you where to get tons of different camshaft grinds for the 22RE!

Here's a guy selling 5 levels of performance cams for the 22RE. http://www.custommachiningusa.com/specialty_items.html

PS: I bought those idler arm bushings from him and they worked great.

There are a few things going on here.

1: What people "like" Which is an emotional responce usually about how much "Power" they believe a cam does or doesn't give.

2: What lasts... as in someone who has say, 300,000 on a FACTORY cam and the engine is still running strong. Does anyone have 100,000 miles on an aftermarket cam? What are peoples experiences with longevity?

3: You have two STOCK "Profile" cams. And you are asking which of those to use.

To answer all three,

An RV cam can give a slight increase in power, and will change the torque curve. Most people are happy with the results.

The factory cam is a high quality unit. WE all know they can go for hundreds of thousands of miles. Everything is designed around it, from metalurgy, to how the fuel system works in conjunction with it. For longevity and reliability this is the best choice, in factory profile or RV flavor.

And finally to answer your question. Use the Factory reground cam. That cam blank is proven beyond a reasonable doubt where other cams are not.

Recently installed a LC engineering Pro Torquer... went ahead and did a timing chain job while I was in there, at least that improved things for me... the cam offers no improvement over stock OEM..in fact the truck doesn't have the power it did before... OEM had a distinct "surge" when the powerband kicked in... LC's cam doesnt impress me
