Cam lobes wiped bad, need opinion on Rockers
Hi guys,
I just got an annoying tick that started on my way home from work on friday in my 94 22re pickup. Long story short I just did a top end rebuild, all toyota gaskets, new head, aisin oil and water pump, etc. I left the bottom end alone because I had great compression, 169,170,168, 169 on all cylinders, so I left well enough alone obviously. I have 500 miles on this, and this afternoon pulled the valve cover to check head bolt torque, and found my brand new cam was wiped like a mother.
Now before you say user error, know that this is not my first rodeo with a 22re, and that this cam was broken in properly valves set to proper gap for that specific cam, etc. I am in contact with who I got the cam from, but my question now turns to my rocker arms. I had the OEM rockers resurfaced at a highly reputable machine shop in the area, and am now wondering if they are now toast because of the cam taking a crap?
At this point I am just sick to my stomach, but would like to know when a cam wipes, are the rockers usually toast as well?

How many loves are trash? Is it just one? If so maybe the rocker seized a bit and wore down the love or poor hardening on the cam caused the rocker to fail.
You can take your rocker bridge assembly apart and replace a single rocker if that is the case.
Why did you have your rockers resurfaced in the first place? They are cheap enough to replace as opposed to grinding on them hoping the heat treating and polish remains.
