A/C belt saga

So my a/c belt was squealing on my 89 3.0 with 235000 miles. Tried to use some belt dressing to make it stop for a few days, being lazy and a heat wave here with 100 degree days. Belt dressing didn't work so I bought all new belts and started taking it apart. Belts were original Toyota! After getting in to the job I found the problem was the harmonic balancer was in 3 pieces. I can't believe it was still all staying together on the truck. Replaced the harmonic balancer and belts and all is good now. Just a reminder to check this when you can.

Good tip.

Just out of curiosity, what torque did you use for the crank bolt? And as importantly, how did you (if you did) keep the crank from turning while you put the bolt in?

180 foot pounds and I used a small pipe wrench on the edge of the pulley to hold it.
