It'll run that way... not very good but it will. Not having one is illegal and it certainly won't pass your next smog check. Buy a high flow aftermarket one and have a reputable shop weld it in. See your in Lodi.. We should grab a beer in Rio Vista sometime. I hang out there alot at my hangar at the airport.

Yeah, it'll run... not as good as it should but it will run. Having a test pipe in will help a bit.
And since you're in Calif, it is illegal, as UKMeyer said, to not have a converter installed. Also, any cat sold or installed in Cali has to have an EO# and meet the new standards for 2009 as well as be installed by a licensed installer, so there are no "cheap" converters here anymore.
I had magnaflow's installed on my 91 and 88 for about 220 each.

Yeah I had mine stolen last summer. I just stuck in a pipe and drove for a couple months. It didn't hurt anything.

You're damn right! Our Constitution guarantees us the right to have guns to protect us from the government. We will be a free country as long as the population is armed. That's why Obama, Pelosi, and Reid want to take them away so badly. Americans take the 2nd Amendment pretty seriously and I hope those morons in Washington keep that in mind.

Maybe not yet, but wait til 2011 when Hawaii will adopt California standards for emissions. HB2178 would be the document enabling the action.
It however does not, as of yet, incur retro-active standards... but just wait. Anyhow, the OP is in California so our standards do apply. As well, there is a movement in the Federal gov't to adopt Cali standards nationwide. Given the tendencies of the current adminstration, expect it to be an interesting ride.

Just go get a piece of pipe and put in a test pipe. You'll be fine. I don't have a cat in my truck and it runs better than it ever did with one.

x2.......I removed my clogged cat last summer(I had no choice) and I haven't any problems yet.I don't have a CEL on because I only have 1 O2 sensor and it is located before the cat.
Here in Griffin,Ga their is not a emission test required yet but I want be long before they decide to start doing it because the county I work for does have the emission test and it's just up the road a piece
