We all know about the idler arm problems w/ beefy tires etc wearing bushings and the arms bending.
A few years ago, Frank at SDORI did a lot of background work looking for brass replacement bushings in place of the plastic ones, and has had them made for the AutoZone FA5040 Idler arm, b/c it's a little beefier than others, even OE.

Well I got some of these from the first batch.
just wanted to say, in the years since then, my 4Runenr has been thoroughly abused, run at Rausch Creek, races at Uwharrie Stables, ECORS, and Line Mountain. I've bent 2 relay rods and 3 tie rods, and who knows what else.

Well in replacing the relay rod this last time, I realized the idler arm (which was not braced) was finally bent on the arm. So I decided it's time for replacement. Pulled it off for a good inspection...
Guess what - the bushings are still GREAT! no wobble at all! I am very impressed.

so I just wanted to say, for the cost of a few pizzas, this is a fantastic upgrade.

(Now if somebody will just start making an affordable brace, it'd be perfect...)

 

That's good to know about the bushings. This is the route I'll be going as changing idler arms is just getting annoying.
