Brake booster replacement

I have a brake issue that's spongy and when i hold the foot on the brakes it slowly pushes in. I put it down to it being the booster faulty. Can some of you good fellas let me know what model 4runner / hilux etc has a compatible booster that i can just swap around.

thanks
Stuee

bad brake booster would lead to no power assist. Spongy brake pedal is usually air in the lines, and when you do a hold test on the brakes (press down hard on pedal and hold it) and the pedal slowly goes down instead of staying firm, then that's usually a bad seal in the master cylinder. Make sure you fully diagnose before replacing parts.

As far as parts compatibility, you'll have to tell us what vehicle you're driving before we can tell you what parts will work with it.

No worries.

For bleeding, you start at the furthest bleeder from the master cylinder and work towards the closest bleeder to the master cylinder, then you do the LSPV above the rear axle. So... passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front, LSPV. There are lots of threads on here for bleeding. Run a quick search and you should be able to find them. I posted a writeup for building a simple tool that is very easy to use for bleeding brakes. Take a look at it here. The tool will also work with your 2nd generation 4Runner.

I'm not sure if Toyota sells a rebuild kit for master cylinders or not. At the very least, they might sell the seals individually. A call to your local dealer should clear that up.
