In the first pic, what's that black metal panel? The one with the two loose bolts sitting on top of it? That would be right above the fuel tank/pump.

 

good eye thook that would be right were it should be.. but looks different then my old 87 had if i remember correctly.. ill have to look see if mine have that...

twas.. cant beilve ive never noticed that before.. i wonder if my hilux turbo diesel has one?? i wonder where the fuel pump is on that??

I assumed that black panel was where the fuel pump would be? There are 3 screws that hold it down and they are pretty rusted.

 

No pics of the gas lines because the issue is up over the cross member that I can't access. If I can find my impact driver I will see if I can get those 3 screws off to see what the dealio is.

 

SOAK THEM IN PB BLAST ATLEAST OVERNIGHT!!
and heat them maybe cause those look snaptastic!

Use a small 2x4 between the hammer and screw........or something else soft enough not to damage the phillips heads, yet stout enough to make some impact.

So would you guys recommend me just replacing it with the hard line? Or finding the high pressure fuel hose and double clamping it at both line nut ends?

bigt, yes I have tan leather. Don't enjoy it too much because it's freezing in the winter and sticks to my ass in the summer. If the truck came with heated seats I would appreciate them a lot more.

Um.......this will go completely against what the majority will say, BUT...

Eons ago....probably 7 or 8yrs.....I twisted the same hard line off replacing the fuel pump on my '86. My only option to get home from that parking lot was to splice with a regular fuel line and double hose clamp it on both ends. It held up all this time. Recently, I had to replace the FP again. So, I just put the same line back on. No leaky poo.......plenty of pressure.

If I had time and money to drop the fuel tank, I've thought of replacing the hard line and rubber pressure line, but.......I don't know.....I'm driving. What difference is it making?

 

yeah you can get the rubber fule line hose at any auto store...

it would be alot easyier to get a small pipecutter that can cut that off where its nice.. i think tis 3/8 hose you need.. but take a small peice to makesure with you... some people flare one end a bit then double clamp.. then you could prolly route it without even dropping the tank.. to right to before the fuel filter. and zip tie/secure along the frame or origianl gas line if you leave it in place..

 

The only thing I noticed was that it makes a weird bend. I think you can see it in one for my pictures. I am hoping that the high pressure fuel line hose won't kink if I do run it like that.

 

It won't. It has stiff wall. Plus, it won't run like the hard line. It will more or less take it's own path.

But after seeing that rust. I hope you are going to drop the tank?

Not sure if you can see it, but that rubber section in one of your pictures, that runs to the fuel pump sending bracket thats mounted in the tank. That has a section of metal on it..that is as rusted as that I can bet you. It also has a 90 degree bend in it, which means a weak spot.

You should drop your tank and replace it all, otherwise I fear its like the Dutchman plugging the dam. You fix one section and the pressure pops another weak spot.

my 2 cents worth. I bet that whole area is eaten up with rust.
