are bracket lifts a good idea? and how much would they cost??

I wheeled the hell out of my 95 4Runner with a 4" Superlift bracket kit...in the mud, on trails, and rocks. I never broke any of the components, I just threw my alignment off. If I had to do it over again, I would do a mild lift; put on some bj spacers and lift the rear to match. You could run 33x10.50's with that set up. You would also save a ton by doing so, and could spend the money you didnt use on a bracket kit on sliders, gears, lockers, etc...
A new bracket lift kit can run you $800-1200ish, depending on where you buy it, which brand you get (they're basically all the same) and if you get add-a-leafs, blocks or whole new packs.

the problem is is that the rear is about 6 inches higher then the front so i need to do some major lift at the front. and im looking at getting 31/12 or somthing like that or some 31.10.5 that stick out the side of the truck.

Do yous think i should just do a sas instead?? probly be cheaper in the long run and i get more flex?

I'm not sure if a SAS would be cheaper, and why do you want your tires to stick outside of your truck? You should drop the rear and lift the front to match. 31's on 6" of lift would look extremely whimpy and small. It's your truck, you can do whatever you want with it.

I had a bracket lift, Trailmaster, I wouldn't get another, I bent and broke the brackets a few times.. They can be made strong with modifications. Trialmaster is probably the weakest. I would certainly look into fabing up beefy skid plates, etc...

I'd go SAS before I did another bracket style lift. Honestly, they are pricey, a pita to install, and can be easily damaged on the trail.

i have a 1990 4runner with a bracket lift and b\j spacers. i run 36 in superswampers and have clearance. 31's would look goofy.

I would do it if you got it cheap or free.

only reason im not gonna do it is because 35's are more expensive than some 33x10.5's and when i do long travel, ill have to take it out.
