Body lift or suspension lift....
I have a 95 longbed pickup and im trying to decide what kind fo lift to put on it. I was hoping to clear 33-35s and im not afraid of cutting some fender to do it. I know 33s can fit stock, and id guess a 35 would be fine with a small amount of lift. My original plan was to put on a 2-3" 4crawler lift to do the drivetrain tuck. Im going with a SAS in the near future, so id rather not get an IFS susp lift, but I might have a line on a used one from a buddy's 4runner. Lets get some opinions...

33's dont fit very nice stock unless you really dont care about bustin out the nibbler. 33's usually go well with a 4in suspension lift and then add a 3in body lift will and ypu'll clear 35's

He's right. Most tacoma folks will tell you that the only realistic way to clear 35" rubber is to do a 6" lift such as fab-tech's. If you do a few inches suspension and a two inch body lift you can put some 33s on there though.

i have a pickup, not a tacoma,l one of the last ones i guess. I have a friend running 33s on his 1st gen 4runner with very little rubbing and maaaybe an inch of lift i think. Ive heard they fit fine on the pickups. Its got soem body damage from a previous accident, so im not toooo worried about cutting a lil fender if necessary...
also, my plan for the future was a SAS with as little lift as possible to fit 36-37s, probably in about 4 months or so? I was just plannin on running the rubicon this summer before school starts up again

Don't waste your time until you do the SAS. Suck it up and live with the stock tires/lift clearance until you do it. Then when you do the SAS you can put leafs all around and get the exact lift you want or need to clear those tires. I wouldn't even waste my time with a body lift either seeing as how versatile an SAS is for customizing/getting the suspension lift you want.

If you're going to sas it in a few months anyways it would be kind of pointless to go and spend $600 now on an ifs lift.
I have had a 3" bl on my truck for 11 years now and I've never even been reminded it was there. I have had no problems at all with it at all.
I'd say do a 3" bl for now and then take it back off when you do the suspension the right way.
With the 3" bl and some fender trimming you should be able to squeeze some narrow 35's under there pretty easily. I know I could get 33x12.50 's under mine and not rub at all, so if you trim I'm sure you could get the extra 2".
bl's aren't as bad as people make them out to be... Sure they don't help the handling of the truck, but they don't hurt it either ( a little higher CG maybe...). All they are for is to run bigger tires, which is what you are wanting to do.

2in body, bj spacers, and shackle lift, about 300 bux, at most, do it. fit 33s, this winter do the sas, and sell the bj spacers, and shackles. 3in bl is too much IMO

id be doing the body lift and drivetrain tuck with the intent of keeping it for a long time. I was wanting to actually do an SAS with little to no additional lift. Just wondering basically if people thought that it was worth it to do the drivetrain tuck. Ideally, I wouldnt do any body lift for the tuck if it wasnt necessary. I have the locker sitting in my room (lockright) and i have sliders in teh garage, all I really need for the rubicon now is the tires, because the 225s on it arent gonna cut it for me. I have a buddy with 3 bfg 33s with tons of life left, i just need a forth to mount em up....

Since you can't really tuck the drivetrain without a body lift, then I guess you have to have one. However, unless you are planning on competitions or something, I don't think the drivetrain tuck is completely necessary, get a low profile crossmember, personally, I like BudBuilt's, but FROR makes a different style that some people like. I would rather get the extra lift from the SAS than from a body lift. I say save your money for the SAS, if you really want to spend some money, buy 4.7 t-case gears instead, they will do a lot more for you than a body lift. If you have to run the 33's, trim a lot and run them that way, you will appreciate the trim with 37's anyway.
You can run a lot on 31's with a locker, I have done a TON with my truck and I am only running 31's until it is built.

Im not just itching to blow some cash, I just liked the idea of having that tcase up out of the way since its hanging down waiting to be knocked. I'll look into the crossmembers though. I was having the same feelings about the type of lift, thinking more SAS lift = more flex than a body lift with say, stock 85 leaves. Ive got a line on some 35x12.50s I think, but I dont know if I could run them with stock height/gearing, haha.

after looking at the budbuilts for a little bit, im thinkin I really like the looks of one of those. 3/8 is nice So I guess i'll just be looking for tires now. I have a set of z71 alloys with 2 good bfg ats and 2 balding/bald ones (245/65 or something about 31") i got for super cheap, but they didnt fit over my hubs, im thinking of just drilling out the center with a hole saw, what do you guys think?
