body lift install problems
OK. I have a 1995 ext. cab pickup. Bought a 2" body lift (Performance Accessories #5502M). Installed it today by myself.
The bolts for the rear of the cab are too long (they should be 5½" and they are 6"). The firewall plate doesn't fit, (I have to bend it to fit the contour of the firewall). The steering shaft hits the inner fender (no big deal, I'll bend the inner fender a little). The clutch line is being stretched (all they tell you to do is remove a clip fom the bracket). I'm still looking it over to make sure everything is correct.
I'll post pictures on how I fixed these little annoyances. They have been making this kit for a while now, and it's still messed up?
Some of you are saying "ditch the body lift". No, I'll be doing a SAS when I can save enough money and after this truck is running. I'm not going to spend money on an IFS lift only to later do a SAS.

So, do your bolts run out of threads?
If you have problems, contact performance accessories, or the place you bought it. Im sure they can send you the correct bolts. Mine all fit perfect.
The clutch line, do you mean the hard line? Mine bent a little during lifting but was fine, its been almost a year since I installed it.
Me thinks they might have included a few parts for a 3" body lift in your 2" kit.

I did run out of threads, and I'm not going to use washers to make it work. I stopped in at Home Depot and got the right length bolts to see if I wasn't the problem. They fit fine, now I'll stop in at a local hardware store and get some stronger bolts, (I don't know how good the Home Depot ones are.
I'm going to send them an e-mail, not to complain, but to make them aware of the problems I had.
The rubber clutch hose is stretched (3.0 V6). I was looking at it and came up with my own solution (will post pics later).
The might have packaged it incorrect, bit it's a good thing all the blocks are the correct size.

It is very important to use the correct grade for those bolts. Because you are using longer bolts the leverage on them is greatly intensified. When you crash the Homo Depot bolts snap and the cab goes flying...but Im sure you knew that already

I'll find better quality bolts somewhere. The bolts at the rear of the cab are supposed to be 6" according to the instructions. They are a little too long so that's why I temporarily put Home Depot bolts in. I wanted to snug all the bolts down and check stuff like brake/clutch lines and wiring.

I just sent them (Performance Acessories) an e-mail. Lets see if they respond.
On a side note, the rubber body mounts are bad. I priced them at the dealer. $315.00 to replace all the cab mounts. I ordered the Energy Suspension 8.4103 polyurethane cab mount set which cost $80.00 with tax.
Haven't found the stronger bolts yet. I'll look during lunch tomorrow.

No response from Performance Acessories, yet.
Picked up the Energy Suspension cab mount set.
Found the bolts at the same hardware store that I looked in before. I was looking in the same place and happened to look in the 7/16's bin and found 4 3/8X16 5½" grade 8 bolts. They were $4.00. I believe they are galvanized, but at least I can remove the Home Depot bolts.

you probably know you can check the bolts' strength by looking at the head of it and you'll see little lines coming in from the corners. if it's got no lines on the head it's a grade 3 bolt, 3 lines on the head it a grade 5 bolt, 6 lines would be a grade 8. grade 3 is out of the question, grade 5 would be acceptable, but a grade 8 is preferred.

Nope, 3/8. That's what comes in the body lift. The original ones are 10MM.
I know about the markings on bolt heads. I finally found grade 8 bolts. I really didn't want to put something of lesser grade than those bolts.
