myyota: thanks dude I was trying to picture in my head how you guys were wiring these up with the fuse. Do you get rid of the black box or keep it? Seems like a good idea to keep the box just in case you ever have to replace the cables again.

You can keep the box if you want to, but you will have to make an extra cable. or you can run the wire from the alternator to the fuse box.

I'm not sure at what RPM the alternator I ordered will reach the 130amps but I bet I'ts pretty high rpm that I will never see. The 100 amp fuse would be fine for now right?

most alternators are rated at the full amp for normal driving rpm meaning about 1500-1800. I would use that 150 amp fuse if I were you.

this will give you an idea: http://storesense1.mysuperpageshosti...ail.bok?no=493

"This unit has 75 amp capability at 1000 engine rpm and 170 amps at 1800 engine rpm."

ok I found out the style of fuse we all have are "PAL". Can I bypass the old 100 amp fuse and install a different style? I can't seem to find a fuse bigger than 120 in PAL style. I have also thought about returning the 130amp alternator and go for a 90 or 100 amp.

I have a 95 amp alternator on my 4Runner and a 100 amp fuse and it works perfect.

I found 1 company (Optifuse) in the US that makes the 140 amp PAL type fuse. I put a email into them tonight. It would be great if I could just upgrade to the 140 and keep everything I have now.

ok tell me if I have this right cause I got my alternator in mail today and plan on installing it this weekend.

From the alternator to the fuse box i'm going to run new 4gauge wire. From the negative side of the battery to the engine mount i'm going to run new 4 gauge wire. From the battery to the starter i'm going to run new 4 gauge wire and from the postive side of the battery to the fuse box i'm going to run new 4 gauge wire and should install a fuse on my 4 gauge wire?

That sounds right to me, but it would also be a good idea to run a ground from the battery to the body, and when you run the ground to the motor mount hook it to the engine side of the mount.

I would use 4 or 6 gauge wire.

I have been playing around with it today and decided to leave the old wire inside the factory harness and just remove the wiring going from the alt. to the black box and cutting the end off the on wire in the fuse box and capping it off.

Ingsoc: I got a email back from optifuse and they told me to contact Fuseco at 800-234-3873 and they should be able to get me the fuse I'm looking for.

Pics? I have a hard time wrapping my mind around stuff unless its painted in a picture or broke down to retard level.

MUCH MUCH MUCH appriated for every ones support on this BTW

EDIT NOTE: Ok I think I got it... in the pics on #9 it didnt seem like you upgraded the alt wires all that big... They arnt white & blue stripe so it does look like you upgraded them. Said you used 6ga?. So I would just run the 4ga from bat+ to fusebox and the 6ga from fusebox-alt? and just bypass the black box and disconnect the extra wireing?

I'll post some pics tomorrow of what I have done. I already have a cable on my battery that goes to the starter and the other goes to the fuse box. I saw the same one at the autoparts store today. It might be easier t pick ones of them up. I'm just going to cut a fuse in on the wire that goes to the fuse box and run a new wire to the alternator.
