Well I went out to change the oil in my truck today and discovered that my front passenger side shock was broke off. So now i need to replace it and was wondering what brand of shocks I should get. I'm unemployed currently so i can't exactly afford bilsteins at the moment. I've heard a few people say the pro comp es3000s are pretty good for their price but i was wondering if there are any other brands that have some reasonably priced shocks that are worth getting.

 

I have a 1993 v6 4runner and I got the rancho rs5000 and they're awesome ! a little more then pro comps but worth it!

 

I've never had a problem with the Gabriels I have on my 91 pickup. I got them from a local parts store for $25 a piece, and they have a lifetime warranty on them, so if they do go out I can just go switch them out on warranty. The mount on the lower control arm had broken so I cut them off and welded 1/4" steel plates on it for the lower mount with a hole drilled through the middle. It works well for me, I'm on dirt roads a lot too.

 

the es3000 i had were terrible. made the truck ride like an empty dump truck going down stairs.

 

Do you want cheap or good? Can't get both.

Bilstein are one helluva shock for the money (@ $63 each), but Tokico (OEM) are decent for a lot less.

 

i'd prefer good but i am limited to how much i can spend, i have a few other things to fix on the truck as well.

 

unemployed? i would get two of the cheapest parts store front shocks i could find to get me down the road. once you get a job and get some income flowing, then consider an upgrade. don't blow money you don't have. just my $.02

 

Don't buy Monroe even though they average $15 a piece . I have changed the set of Monroe's on my ranger once a year for 2 years but they were covered by lifetime warranty . My Toyota has Gabriel's on it now and they have been on there so long the rubber bushings are cracking away they are rusty but they don't leak and they still preform fine

 

I have the Gabriels on my 89 and they work just fine.

 

Gabriels and Napas brand of shocks are both good quality and good price, and they both have a life time warranty

 

oem toyota shocks have lifetime warranty when installed by dealer...

 

not too sure on prices for that year yota but for mine which is a first gen tacoma it was cheaper to buy the bilstein 5100 then the gabriel, monroe, napa brand shocks. Just look into it because at first i didnt believe it untill i triple checked they were the right ones. Front bilstein were $68 compared to the $74 gabriel, $89 monroe and same for the napa.

 

Is it me, or is this a no brainer.

well my brother is gonna help me out a little since I helped him get his 4wheeler up and running today so I think im gonna go with the Gabriel ultras since the majority of you guys said they were good. I can get them from autozone for $37 each with a lifetime warranty. i appreciate the help from all of you guys
