ive been researchin alot about different bulbs. I was trying to find out what was the best bulb for our yotas? alot of people liked the sylvania xtravison, but they burn out to quick.... I was wondering if Hella or PIAA bad any better bulbs.... i want to go with hids or try to retro fit some sort of projector nto my housing later, but for right now i want something cheap.....

 

I like and have the Sylvania Ultra-Visions and they rock. HAve had them for a while with no burn out problems.

 

buy the cheapest HIDs you can find on ebay

 

or you could try the roundeyes housings with an upgraded harness from 4crawler

 

i am running Hella 80/100W H4 bulbs on stock wires and when compared to my Ford F250 with Sylvania bulbs, well lets just say that the ford is alot harder to drive at night than my 4Runner.

I have the same setup and its great. Not technically street legal in the US.

 

yea i wanna go HID but i dont wanna get pulled over or blind others. i was thinking of running the upgraded harness with either PIAA or Hella bulbs, but i just love the way HID looks and how the way the beam cuts off!

 

Its the silverstars that burnout excessively fast. the xtravisions last way longer.

I've had extravisions in my truck for about 20k miles, and i drive most of those with my headlights on.

 

shoes138, there is the cheaper run-off brand name from Hella that would be what your looking for. as for the HID, you cant buy lights that say they have a HID beam, only true HID headlights can give you the feeling of accomplishment. i personally love my 100W Hella's. their very powerful at high beam and somewhat powerful on low beam. if you dont want to be pulled over, get some sort of driving light that is legal and if you smell bacon, just switch till you can't smell it anymore.

 

I use 9007 Napa bulbs. they work great. I somtimes put in the phillips kind at Napa. you have to modify the wiring but its brighter than stock

 

I run Hella lamps (stock replacement for the '94's square headlight.) These offer a much better pattern than stock, and mine are 10+yrs old, likely this has improved.

I've tried a number of different bulbs over the years. Toyota, Local Auto Store, Hella, PIIA and another brand I forget the name of.

I did NOT like the 'altered' ones, blueish, 8000 something, the 'different frequency' didn't help me a bit and these PIIA did not last very long. I tried a PIIA in my V-Rod (H11) and had a similar experience.

The stock Toyota ones and the auto parts store worked just fine.

The Hella 85W ones were my favorite. One died when my truck was hit nearly head on. They were replaced with the PIIA and I clearly liked the Hella's better.

IMHO the Hella replacement lamps w/ high output (not street legal) 85W bulbs are the cat's meow and won't break the bank and no mods needed. Aim your headlights properly and it won't blind people.
