My 87' 22re truck with an Aisin A43D automatic transmission make a bell ringing sound when I accelerate from a dead stop. This only happens in forward and not in reverse. The sound increases as I increases rpms the drops off as it shifts through gears. Once the truck has been driven a while the sound seems to disappear or maybe it is to low to hear. I thought it was a pulley or the Harmonic Balancer, however this does not happen in neutral or park. It doesn't seem to be a loose heat shield and no wear is visible anywhere front to back along the drivetrain. The transmission shifts smoothly and I change the fluid more than necessary ( every 10k). The truck has 95k miles, all of which are babied. Not hard acceleration or seeding. I live on Fl so no mountain driving either. I changed the tyranny filter this last time. No clogs or metal shavings in the pan. I'm annoyed and clueless as to what it can be. Can anyone help? Thanks, Doug
We the assembled cohort of Yota DIY technical intelligentsia need more information to tackle this task. Is the sound you report sounding more like a church bell or a dinner bell or one of the dreaded "Hell's Bells"? Is a high pitched tone or a lesser sound being detected when this anomaly occurs?

Thank you for your response. The ringing might also be thought of as a metal rattling at the pitch of a brass bell ringing. The fact that it only occurs in forward and from a dead stop is what frustrates me. The sound seems to come from in front and somewhat below when driving. The sound is loudest from a cold acceleration. The sound is minimal when the truck warms up. So bizarre.
Check Spider Bearing / Cross-Joint / Universal Joint?
The propeller shaft on my Pajero (Sorry, Spanish speakers) sounds like a chime when stroked.. err tapped - LOL! I was hearing same sound when I shifted to first gear from full stop. Found defective spider bearings.
