Back window problems yet again. Back Door dash light always on

Hey fellow runners.

I spent a good couple hours trying to fix my back window issue. The issue is that the "Back Door" light on the instrument panel is always lit up when the tailgate is closed. What i then did was open up the back service hatch and do some testing and playing around, here is what i figured out.

Both sides of the tailgate have a latch sensor. When i unplugged both of them the light stayed on, so that made me think that the path had to be continuous in order for the relay to fire.
I then measured the resistance (To the latch sensors) When they are open and closed. For my drivers side, the resistance was 10 while open, and 7 while closed. My passengers was 12 and 8 respectively. So i'm unsure what was going on there. Maybe both are out of wack?
I then took some copper and made a jumper on the plugs that lead back to the harness to 'complete' the circuit. However my back door light was still on.

What do you guys think? Should i tear open the harness and check for shorts? Or is there another piece of the puzzle i am missing? I have NOT screwed around with any of my wiper relays (I haven't opened up that hatch yet, so i am unsure if the previous owner did). I don't think anything relating to the wiper would cause that light to stay on though.

It is fairly easy to bypass all of the safety relays and wire in a DPDT switch straight to the tail gate, you just need to be careful, because if you hit the switch and the tail gate is open the window will move.

Not sure if the 2nd gen is same as 1dt gen, but on my 88, the tailgate has to be closed and locked for that dash light to go off.

If you close tailgate without locking it, dash light will be on. When you put window up, the window moving up would engage the lock and then light goes out.

It would help if you put model-year-engine-transmission-trim on your signature.
Got pics? Wire colors? See a green-red wire connected to the latch switches?
I believe these conditions will cause rear door fault light to come on.
1) Either one or both the latch switches connects the G-R wire to ground, OR
2) The LOCK position detect switch connects the G-R wire to ground.

Did you try what it does when you disconnect both wires from both the latch switches?

On my 1986 4Runner, 22RE, 5sp Manual DLX, where the latch switches are good, rear door light only comes on when tailgate is UNLOCKED (condition 2 above)

That was it! I disconnected the 2 tailgate lock sensors, locked the gate, and the light turned off. Tailgate works fine now. Thanks!

The previous owner already wired one of those in, a reverse polarity switch to reverse the current flow wired directly into the motor, however i took it out and reverted it to stock as it was giving me issues (With voltage drop, motor wasn't moving all the way up)

Thanks for the input! My problem was that during my testing i forgot about the rear locking button physically on the tailgate!

Currently, my only problem is the rear key lock switch doesn't roll the window up or down. That is a problem for another day though, thanks everyone for the help!

So one of the tailgate sensors was either adjusted wrong or had short to ground.
