I have the rear end out from under my 94 extra cab 4x4 and I'm in the middle of the swap due to rotten axle housing. My problem is that the brackets on the axle housing where the leafs sit on are of different size. My brackets are approximately 2 3/16" wide from side to side and the brackets on the donor housing are approximately 3" wide, thus the u-bolts don't fit. I see in the FSM that the regular cab leafs springs call for a pad and retainer pad top and bottom as well as a different rubber spring bumper. The extra cab spring diagram does not list the pads and mine had none. Would these pads make up for the difference in the wider brackets on the axle housing? My spring seats are also not going to work. I need ideas please. Also could anyone with a similar 89-95 4x4 pickup both regular cab and extra cab be willing to measure the width of these brackets (on top of rear axle housing that leaf spring sits on and u-bolts go around.)

Could it maybe have been a t100 rear with a wider perch?

89-95 Pickups have wider perches than 79-85 or 86-88.

Guess what, you got a 89-95 housing. I found the same thing when putting a U-Bolt flip on my 90 Pickup.

Flip kit was for a 79-88. Or the accessory perches people sell.

I made it work.

My truck is a 94 and it has narrower perches, the donor was I believe a 91.

Springs are the same width, regardless of year. There are wide perches on some 3rd gen pickups. They had a rubber lined clamp of sorts around the rear leaves, probably to isolate the road vibration:





Made the spring perches, u-bolts and plates wider to allow for the clamp thickness.

Yep, mine had those pads and plates. I had to make a 3/8" spacer with a really big peg in one side and a normal size hole in the other, to compensate for the lack of the pads/plates.

Our FJ-62 has those pads/plates as well, they are still on that thing.

I just put the call in to Toyota and ordered the pads, pad retainers, bump stops, spring seats and u-bolts. I also needed a new ABS sensor for the rear diff. I can't wait for this bill. 4crawler, thanks for the pics they put everything into perspective! I appreciate it, still curious about why on the pads and retainers. Unless they figure that the extra cab doesn't need them due to a longer wheelbase, less vibration? The pads and retainers were only available on regular cabs.
Also are the top and bottom pad retainers the same? Is there a pin that sticks out on the bottom one? I see a hole in the center of my perch, wondering if it is utilized?

I have a spare set of those clamps if you are looking for a set. Still in decent hape (off a '94). And the center pin on the spring pack sticks out the rubber lined hole in the clamp and that whole mess drops into the enormous hole in the top of the spring perch. I guess Toyota was after no direct metal-metal contact with those things.

Got most of the parts in, looks like everything is gonna mount up, it was definately a regular cab rear end that I got as a donor, it's funny I would have never thought there was a difference between the two. I'm just waiting on 2 more backordered pad retainers and 2 regular cab bump stops coming from Japan of all places, should be here Monday. I'm just glad everthing is gonna be a fit, without any additional hassle. Now I'm on the fence about ordering a set of new rear springs while everything is apart, I'm thinking OME's as the cost is reasonable or should I go Alcan for almost twice the cash? I'm also thinking about POR15 or Rustbullet on the new housing to try and prevent this problem again.
