Auto Tranny -electrical problem
ok guys and gals I need some help...
Just had my tranny rebuilt cause it was toast (no gears). Got her back on a friday night only to find a huge puddle of ATF fluid under her the next morning. In comes the flat bed and back to the shop to replace a seal.
I get her back in a week, runs fine for a day then wont shift out of first gear. Again the flatbed and back to the shop. Tranny pulled again and rebuilt. Get her back again in about a week and she is running hard and strong for about a week.
Now is when it starts to get wierd. I was driving then all of a sudden she is out of gear, in neutral. She has no forward or reverse gaers. Shut her off and restart and she is running and shifting normal again for about 3 minutes then it happens again. So in comes the flatbed again. The shop thinks the ECU is shot so they swap it out but she still pops out of gear for some reason. so now they think its a problem with the wire harness to the tranny so they will swap it out tomorrow and we'll see.
All the silenoids and the speed sensors were replace from the beginning along with the kick down cable.
Does anyone have any ideas cause we are running out of them at this end. The shop has a great rep with toyotas and the owner is an awesome guy. He has offered me my money back but I told him we would talk about that if he cant fix her
thanks AX

One way to determine if the ECT unit is bad, is to unplug it and manually shift through the gears. If it pops out of gear with the ECT unplugged, you have a mechanical problem.

There are 4 solenoids for the tranny. Two on the driver side fender, one under the dash and the 4th is inside the transmission beside the transfer position switch.

First thing's first, check to make sure your shift linkage is properly adjusted. This might be able to cause the problems you are describing.

Thanks guys. I wasn't able to follow up with the shop yesterday but I didn't get a call saying I could get my truck.
I dont think the linkage could cause these symptoms, cause after I shut her down and restart it is fine for a while.
There are 4 solenoids and they were all replaced with the rebuild, or so I was told.
