Well I'd start by figuring out the ignitor coil problem... That's where I would start and see what you can find

 

Well my friend may have another coil i can test on his truck that does run & i'll find out what readings i get on it but the only thing i'm concerned with is that his is a 90-91 & i do believe they are a different coil & ignitor unit.

 

Will a MT ecu just plug and play so to speak?

 

I am also doing the swap. 91 auto to 93 manual. I have a complete donor 4Runner. Keep reading that everyone just uses the auto ecu. I have the manual ecu and just want Somone to say, oh yea, just plug in the MT Ecu.

 

Based on the EWD (Electronic Wiring Diagrams) for a '91 3VZ, it looks like it should work; there's only one set of ECU connectors and pin numbers listed regardless of M/T or A/T (unlike a 96 5VZ which has different connectors and pin numbers for M/T vs. A/T). The only gotcha I saw, I didn't look too closely, is that you'll need to short the "Neutral Start Switch" (most likely plugged into the auto transmission, has a black wire on one side and a black with white stripe on the other) to allow the starting circuit to close properly; the M/T used a switch on the clutch pedal to engage a relay that closed a similar circuit between the ignition switch and ECU and starter.

So I’ve got one question, not related to the Toyota, but I’m doing a 5.0 swap into my Ford ranger, I can’t find a manual ecu with 4x4 so would I be able to just use the auto ecu
