Aussie locker question.

Quick question! I have a 1994 pickup with a 22re. I just picked up some 4.88 third members and I want to do an Aussie locker while it's apart. I'm guessing that I will want the V6 unit now? Part # xd-24930?

Thanks for the help

Ben

I'd talk to the Aussie folks and get their advice. Google "aussie locker" and you'll find their home page. Tell them what you're doing and they'll be able to tell you which unit you need. I found them very responsive and helpful when I was researching my install.

okay cool I'll send them an email. I'm going to do just the rear for now, how do you like it in the front?

On the trail I like it a lot. Turning radius is just as tight as before, and, although the steering wheel fights you a bit more, it's easily manageable with power steering. It makes an IFS rig really trail capable.

For winter driving it's not my favorite setup, but I have to say, now that I'm into my second winter, I'm getting a lot more comfortable with it. I was really nervous at first about possilbly plowing straight ahead in corners, but it doesn't do that at all. It just pulls the front end right around and goes where you want it to go. Again, the steering wheel fights you a bit more, which is a bit disconcerting at first, but as I'm getting more used to it, it doesn't seem to affect controllability or stability of the vehicle at all.

The Aussie has a really smooth ratcheting mechanism - I think you'll hardly notice it's there in the rear. Just follow the install instructions and pay particular attention to the couple of clearance measurements that they have you make during installation. Those are important for smooth and reliable operation of the ratchet mechanism.

benzz, If you have 4 spider gears on a cross and the case halves unbolt, you need the V6 model.

If you have a one piece case and 2 spider gears on a single shaft, you need the 4 cyl model locker.
