ARB bumper

I have a 1993 4Runner with SAS thus the front end suspension wise is completely differant from stock... i have a hitch welded on with the shackle mounts welded onto the bottom of that coming off the front end off the frame where the skip plate used to attach. I was wondering if the arb bumper would fit on still as a bolt on application/if it uses stock bumper mounts, or if it needs the recovery hook mounts? any help would be great.

Do you have the bumper? I mean have you looked at it, or it is one ordered from ARB for a 93 4runner? When we (my ex and I) ordered an ARB for a 93 rodeo, we still had to do a chit load of cutting in order to get it to fit right on the recovery hook mounts. We also found that the 4 bolt points realy were not enough considering the weight of the bumper.

My guess is that you'll want a good friend because you'll be putting it on, measuring, moving it off... cutting, grinding, puitting it back on.... It was a total pain for us. Let me know how it goes.

I guess that's why I *don't* have an ARB on my 93 Runner Well that and some other reasons but yeah.

Not a chance. If you used any sort of Marlin/AP/FRORF styled front crossmember, you're going to have to start from scratch w/ that ARB. You'll have to re-build the entire thing.

I've done it twice.

I installed an ARB on my '92 last summer all by myself. Granted, I installed BIG hooks in joists of the garage ceiling and then suspended the bumper from the hooks using a chainfall and lifting straps. Only had to pull out the grinder once to get about 1/8" additional clearance on the front cross member bumper mount. Other than that it fit great with no problems. The ARB fits over and around the front cross member like a glove. Since yours is modified, sounds like you're in for a decent amount of cutting the ARB to make it fit. Yes, it does use the factory recovery hook bolts to secure the bumper but those are just four out of like 30 or so bolts that hold this beast in place. The frame rails must be clear of obstructions near the factory recovery hook locations or you'll have to cut up the ARB there too. The ARB will actually slide into place around the (factory) front cross member and sit in place on the front of your truck without installing ANY of the bolts.

ARB attaches with 12 bolts, not 30, if I remember correctly. Possibly 14, but I'm 90% positive it's 12 on the Gen-2's.

As for other bumper alternatives, I had to sound crass, but a simple search of the Vendors section here, PBB, 4x4wire, TTORA and the like will give you plenty of options.

Yea, I kind of exaggerated, but it sure is a heck of a lot more than holds the factory tin in place

Edit: So I had to go and look at the installation instructions that came with the ARB. I count 16 bolts to attach the bumper and a bunch more to attach the winch, driving light brackets, turn signal lenses, winch control box, etc. I bet there are more than 30 bolts total that come with the bumper but you're right, not all 30 are used to fasten it to the truck.
