Anyone in here have a turbo on a 22RE
Just wondering if anyone had a turbo and what kind of a difference it made. I am wanting just a little more power without changing my motor out. Thanks in advance!

Have you ever heard of the 22-RET? It's a factory-turbocharged 22-RE. They're a little rare I guess, but they definitely exist. All you have to do is swap some of the intake, exhaust, and fuel management stuff out on yours and voila, turbo.

They say it shouldnt be installed on a stock 22re but mine isnt quite stock. However i still dont know if my engine would be able to handle it

I have an aftermarket turbo setup on my 22re. No Dyno sheets yet, estimated between 200 - 300 horsepower from 7 - 15lbs of boost. I had to rebuild the bottom end, new 8:1 compression pistons. Cyl. Head mods, camshaft upgrade and whatnot. Also, the stock ECU couldnt handle the demands of the turbo so I upgraded to a SDS system for fuel and spark management. Google Jeff Mosk. He pretty much set the bar for 22RTE's.
dcg9381 on here has a pretty sweet set up too, he's still getting it perfect though. He's been lots of help on my project.
I'm currently building a "budget" 22RTE. Stock Turbo Pistons and an EB street RV head. I'm still waiting on the adapter to mount my T3 to the stock manifold...supposed to be ready to today

Yes, LCE makes one. There are several companies that make turbo kits for 22re, Toyotaperformance.com is also a good place to check out, IMO. A stock 22re EFI system doesn't really support a whole lot of boost, and putting a turbo kit on a worn motor (say around 100,000) miles, isn't the best idea... but thats my opinion, based on experience. (however, with proper tuning, perhaps a megasquirt system (DCG9381), I imagine it can be done.

I don't know why you'd buy a turbo setup from LC, unless you were doing a complete package that includes SDS. The review of their turbo header wasn't good and their stuff is pretty expensive.
A t3 garrett turbo is a t3 garrett turbo...
Rick at Fullboogie has been successful in putting a turbo on a "stock" 22re.
Can you do it? Sure! In stock form, expect a mild gain, as you'll have to run very moderate boost. IF you manage fuel and timing, expect a much more significant gain. I think Rick is putting down 170 rwhp on a Mustang dyno - about a 100% gain over stock form.
Ping me if you need help finding a manifold. I've gone through this with my motor and maybe I can answer a few questions and help limit the number of things you've got to reengineer, as it gets expensive.

Yea the Truck did 96.8 horse, bone stock with 115K on it, 167 with 10 psi, MS, 50# inj, 255 lph pump, and adjustable regulator, 203 whp with 17 psi. The turck has been turbo'ed and beat to death for almost 50,000 miles now, but I will tell you about two weeks ago I gave up trying to blow the stock engine to drop in my built motor, so I parked the truck and tore it down. It needs some other work like ball joints, a new radiator, and a timing chain, I was going to continue on with the stock motor, but my friends and Dad told me that I have proven my point with the stock engine, also I had a customer drive his truck in from California last weekend, about ten hours away, and I installed a turbo kit on his truck, he can verify the stock engine is in excellent shape, the head gasket was perfect showed no signs of lifting. So you'll be hearing from me soon hopefully with a fresh "built" motor, I have a new turbo picked out for my stainless T4 header.......looking to make 450~500 horse.....we'll see!!

Darin, yea I installed a MS on his truck, it ended up I took it back off after trying a second computer at which there was some real problems going on, as it turns out after hooking up the stock computer the truck still didn't want to start and when it did it really didn't have any throttle response we found out the NEW rotor was defective and it was shooting spark everywhere. Basically this was messing with the VR circutry in the MS which would expain why I couldn't get it dialed in. But by that time he had to get home so he went home on the stock ECU he will be back in a couple of weeks for his MS. I cranked his fuel pressure and we drove around for a little bit with my wideband installed. As far as cost he bought the complete turbo kit, which includes the MS and 50# injectors, intercooler and everything else you need for $3800, he choose the $225 upgrade to a stainless header, and he bought the high flow fuel kit. I charged him $1000 for the complete install, and MS tune, the labor money has not exchanged hands yet only because pretty much the most important part of this kit is not even on the truck yet (MS), but I loned him a boost gauge and told him to keep it under 4 PSI for his 10 hour trip home, he made it home ok and is looking forward to getting the MS on in a couple of weeks so he can make more boost safely. His truck has 142K miles on it.

I have one. 50k original miles. Mint X-cab 5 sp. I just take short trips ( 1 to 20 miles) in it and it has plenty of power for me. I couldnt imagine going faster but then i,m old. The turbo light rarely comes on. 33 mpg on highway but only 23 in town.
