Any one here swaped there cv axles before?

Hey guys, I could really use your help. I'm replacing the cv axles on my 91 4runner 4x4. I put the new one in and slid it through the spindle but its just barely not sticking through far enough for the c clip to snap on around the notch in the axle. When I was first pulling out the cv axle I didn't notice the c clip untill I saw it lying on the ground so maybe it was in there loose before. But I could really use someones help cause I've been stuck here by one stupid little clip since last night and I have to get my truck on the road for work tommarow morning.
Thanks alot

PS If I just left the clip on the axle and didnt snap it in, would I risk breaking something or loosing control of my vehicle?

Have you compared it against you old one to see if it the right CV? Some times if you buy it from some place like Checker or Autozone they will accidentally give you one that doesn't quite work...

Make sure the gasket on the inner part of the knuckle is going around the CV rather than getting squished in front of it. Also, look to see before you put the CV in to make sure there's nothing in the way.

I just put new cv in my 86' 22r pickup last week - there is a screw hole in the end of each axel.. if you have bolt that fits .. put it in and ude that to pull the axel far enough though so you can get the clip in place

I'd hope that after 5 months, fo by fo would have fixed his problem already.
