another oil pressure question.

first off its an 86 22re

just freshly rebuilt the motor (has roughly 600 miles on it).
brand new oil pump, cover, chain, guides, crank, rods, pistons.

i was driving it today and i noticed the oil pressure bein extremely low. then i was at an idle and both of my gauges read about ZERO
(my mechanical gauge, and my dash gauge. )

i cracked the line at the block and abt 5 or 6 seconds after starting it, oil came squirting out.

the oil has abt 400 maybe 500 miles on it.

any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.!

thanx a million. i definately do not want to destroy this motor.

well its suppose to be pretty low at idle, its suppose to be 4.3 minimum at idle and 36-71 at 3000 hope that helps

You have the right weight oil in it? Is there enough oil in it? Idle speed is what in ur truck?

Just remember that you're shooting for, once the oil is at operating temperature, of 10 psi / 1000 rpm. That's the golden rule and you'll never go wrong with that on any gasoline engine that you're likely to own.

idle speed is abt 900rpms

yes the right weight is in it. book calls for 5w30. i put 5w30 in it. yes its at the full mark, well a little above it.

i just changed the oil to make sure it wasnt the oil (it looked kind of thin). and im still having the same problem.

also it has abt 25-30 at 3000 rpm. but i have to play with the gas pedal first to see oil pressure. (jest revving it up and down, then holding at 3000).

and now that i changed the oil, if i rev it quickly, i can hear something. sounds internal. (kind of like a squeal).

my buddy thinks i spun a bearing, but if i did that. wouldnt i hear the noise constantly??

bad oil pump? or relief valve problem??
im gna take the oil pump off tomorrow and check clearances.

oh and my 81 2wd pickup has great oil pressure, 15-20psi at idle and abt 50-60 when at 3500-4000rpms. and thats after its warmed up.

yeah ide def check your oil pump or even replace it just to see if it fixes the prob, and that sucks dude sorry to hear it. if you spun a bearing you should either hear a knock under load or after you let off the gas depending on wich side of the bearing spun. good luck

timing cover, crank, head bolts are from www.japanengine.com

>>>*From the photo it is obvious there has been debris in there from somewhere, that is way more wear than we ever see.

I just got your email on it and came over to take a look, I will have Tod send you a new one as soon as you resend the address. No need to bother to return that one.

But my worry is that with that much wear, you may have bearing damage since even in that kind of condition the pump will still pump oil unless debris also jammed the pressure relief valve....*EB

thats what i was very afraid of as well, maybe i should pull the pan and make sure nothing is horribly damaged. or maybe just pull the cam and check.

i dont kno what i should do :/

i might be making a trip back to the machine shop.
