another ac ?, advice needed

so since summer is coming, I, like everyone else, want my ac working well. vehicle in question is a 1990 truck. i have had it for 3 years and never touched the ac as it has always worked well until now. I notice the compressor does not cycle off as it should, or almost at all. Is it normal to lose a charge slowly? It is still working, just not nearly as well as it used to. How should I go about servicing this? It is still R12, and god knows when the last time it was serviced was. Am I better off just converting to 134A? If so, EXACTLY what is involved in this? I have also heard about something called "Freeze 12" what is the deal with that? Lots of ?'s i know, but thanks for any help.

Wish I could help ya. Mine doesn't work at all. Heck the light doesn't even come on when I push the ac button.

Alot of people will tell you to convert it but since it still cools some i would just add a can of 12 to it.. I know of several cars that have to have a can added every spring and they work fine all summer.. thats what i'd do

that would be easy enough if anyone still made r12. so, is 134a compatible with 12 to any degree? and what is "freeze 12"?

How much does a can of R-12 cost? I converted to R-134 but I also did have a R-134 compressor to swap on. It's not as hard to convert to R-134 as it was once thought when the R-134 first came out. The main thing is to remove as much R-12 oil from the system as possible and use a compatable R-134 oil when you recharge the system.

You can still get 12, its a little hard, you kinda need to know or have a buddy at a parts store.. Around here 15 - 20 dollars a can..
