Now I know these engines do pretty well non-intercooled, but one of these babies may be worth the while! Cool air = more air = more power!

Mishimoto makes quality products.

hey thanks man, yes an intercooler is definitely in the cards soon. I’m going to mak a custom tube bumper to hold one. Should be pretty trick.

Bumpers had to be custom made to protect the intercooler

Can’t believe it has been so long. Well it’s almost back on the road after blowing a turbo manifold apart. I’m making a homemade one

The homemade manifold did the trick and I’ve put roughly 200 miles on the new manifold so far. Other than small exhaust leaks because of a defective gasket the truck is running good. The tune is about 80 percent there and is on the rich side which is what I prefer. I also refabbed the intake and added a dual feel catch can I had laying around from a motorcycle. Truck runs pretty good, would estimate it has to be Atleast 190 hp as it is much quicker than my 3.4 4runner. Overall I really like the truck, would I do it again is the real question and the verdict is still out on how I feel about that. If anyone is looking into a 22re turbo setup feel free to PM me as I have tied many different setups. Here is a pic dump for your enjoyment

Next plan is finish the bodywork and patch panels, some sway bar end links, misc trim and more than likely go back to a 31 inch tire on some 16 in Toyota 3 spokes I have.

How reliable are these trucks with turbo?? I have to keep a second vehicle to pull my 6x11 hipoint fiberglass enclosed trailer with 2 sportbikes and everything we take on our yearly trips to the Georgia,NC,SC,TN area where all the good roads are for riding motorcycles. Would be nice to be able to pull a trailer with my truck. It will pull it but very slow and just way to hard one it. I’ve considered a 3.4 swap seems like it would be a more reliable setup than a turbo 22r?? Or am I wrong ??
Why don’t I see and of the newer 4.0 v6 swaps?? These have a timing chain instead of that belt that needs changed every 100k is what interests me in the 4.0v6. Currently I just keep a 1994 ford e150 conversion van for my trips and pulling needs. It’s a mint van top to bottom beautiful and I do love it but it gets expensive maintaining/storing/insuring 2 vehicles at all times. Lol when I’m driving one the other goes into storage mode as both are In good rust free shape and that’s another whole discussion on trying to keep rust free vehicles in northern KY. I’ve considered a Cummins 4bt swap as well.

Couple other questions, these turbos you all do, why not use the stock Toyota pickup turbo setup?? Not enough power?? These turbos your using are larger setups right?? I’ve been in 1 Toyota turbo 4x4 and it was really cool even In stock form. Not fast by no means but sure would blow the doors off a non turbo 22re. Lol

Nice build! I have a turbo transplant in my 4runner too. I have an intercooled T3/T4 turbo on the stock manifold with stock computer. I have been trying to convince myself to go megasquirt for a long time. I assume you didn't get their PnP computer? Looks like a MS2? Did you do all the tuning yourself? or did you get a base map from another rte guy?
I've been looking at catch cans for a minute too, your setup looks pretty clean.
