Another 22re turbo thread
alright fellow yotatech members the time has come to start looking into forced induction for my little 22re. The motor was just fully rebuilt to standard 1990 22re specs(stock cam and intake) with the only upgrade being the dual guide timing chain. This motor has the standard high compression head and flat pistons as well. I am looking into going a turbo route and was wondering if a couple simple questions could be answered for me. This truck is not a daily and not even really a trail rig just more of a TOYota. So if this truck is down for a couple months or isn’t super driveable it’s not the end of the world to me. Here is the rough plan and I will outline my questions at the bottom. 22re stainless turbo header *purchased* $200 440cc injectors $170 mk3 CT26 Supra turbo $220 CT26 turbo lines $100 CT26 flange $60 2.5 in exhaust past the downpipe. muffler included $140 HKS BOV $35 Tanks fuel regulator *purchased* $85 Wahlbro 255LPH $70 megasquirt diypnp $500 adapter board $50 ms studio ultra $45 serial cable $15 Filter $30 piping kit and boots $100 wideband w/gauge $180 Generic pillar pod $10 boost guage free GM IAT sensor $25 breathers for PCV elimination $20 misc. fluids and parts $100 total for a non intercooled setup $2150. From what I have gathered during research the only hope for a decent running stock ecu truck is to run methanol. From what I have heard it is a fix all for high intake air temp as well as lack of fuel. Does this sound like a sound plan of attack. Or should I ditch the meth injection and spend that money on a mega squirt and a better fuel pump. The megasquirt leads me to another question I am hoping to answer. Every thread I have seen has said the megasquirt that is plug and play is roughly $400, and the cheapest I can find it anywhere is around $799. Did they stop making the $400 one or did they just hike up the price? |
Mega squirt prices
The formerly ~400$ unit has gone up into price but only about 50$.
The cheapest solution is a DIY PNP (assembly/soldering) required. |
