My bad. I did not read the quote before your reply. I agree. Actually, I think it might even be a little cheaper than that.

3.0

I have 3.0 v6. Runs like a champ. Very well maintained. Pulls 17' Bay Warrior boat.Owned truck for ten years. Waterpump went out in 05. Change oil/water pump , timing chain, clutch, head rebuilt. AC will freeze you out. Can you say OL' RELIABLE.......... She knows how to have a good time if you treat her right. 88 sr5.

257 thousand is when the head gasket blew on mine... 3.0s will work fine... its just luck o'the draw just as with every other truck...

my dad has a 94 chevy 1500, and his friend has the same truck, albeit with 4 new trannies in it... my dad is running over 380 thousand and never even changed the fluid in his...

What i have found reading posts on yotatech. the people that tend to have the most problems with the 3.0's, are the people that try and drive them like they have 300 horsepower and they just don't. it's a truck motor, not a high revving car motor. treat it like a truck engine, maintain it and treat it right it will last. mine, runs like a top, pull 3000 pound boat no problem. Granted, I said, no problem, not fast. My buddy, has a 91 3.0 pickup and he revs the holy living crap out of it when we wheel and he now has a blown main seal and some rod knock that wasn't there a year ago when he bought. they don't have a ton of horsepower, but i have found them to be torquey little SOB's. Yeah the gas milage isn't the greatest, but i get 14-15 in the city and 21-24 on the freeway. that's not bad for a 4000 pound brick.

back to the thread, sounds like a great truck!

Yeah, the 90 I have has 201K on the motor and (knock on wood) I haven't had any issues with the head gasket yet. Truck still runs great. I'm still trying to come up with the funds to pick this other truck up as it is in SO much better shape than mine. But we will see.

The guy that has it for sell is a total toyota freak. Said that's all he owns. Strange that he had never heard of Yotatech. But believe I told him all about it and he should be a new member any day now. He said he also has a 1st gen sittin on 38" boggers.

I am a little new at this, but my 3.0 has 367,000 miles on it and I have never had a rebuild or HG problem...

yeah, i knew it was an old thread, and thanks for the welcome!! I am the third owner of my truck, and it has been completely babied. I have all of the receipts for any work done to it. It has also had very little off-road use, so no real strain on the engine. this is my second Yota, and the first one had a bad ring seals(also a 3.0), so I can see both sides of the argument.

All I'm gunna say in this old thread.....I've had 2 '91 4x4's....my old truck....2 V6 engines.....each engine over 300K...hard miles....the 1 in my 4Runner now....had a hair over 3, when rebuilt by previous owner. Why the rebuild? He towed a huge a$$ boat 10 months out of the year. And this motor has almost 275K on it.....and still strong as hell.

'Nuff said

IMHO a 90 4 runner isn't worth over $2,000. I paid $400 for my 91. yes it had a blown hg when I picked it up but everything else was ok. I sold the auto out of it for $150, had a 5 speed R150 that was previosly given to me and my brother gave me a 3.slow that he just rebuilt for his project that he lost interest in. It included a new clutch master and slave cylinder and lines. After getting all the other small essentials like fuel lines, filters oil, antifreeze ect I figgured I don't have over $600 total in it including PA inspection and emessions testing and it looks drives and runs decent. To be honest I was thinking about ripping the motor out and swapping it out as soon as I took it for the first test drive because of how gutless it is not to mention the pita it is to work on.
