It should be fine to run it without the hubs as log as you have ADD plates installed... Otherwise, no... Don't drive it without hubs...

Great write up! I'm doing mine, .... but they'll go on AUTO LOCKING HUBS, not ADD.... So I'ma have to cross this with another good thread to make sure I cover all the steps....

BUT SERIOUSLY.... As I took mine apart, they had been flipped(the spring and pawl were turned over and actually inside the clutch area.... As I took it apart, ..... I realized how freakin filthy they were(full of hay, etc., lol)... So I cleaned em up fairly well... Gonna use this as a guide of what to do/what not to do(via the tips therein of people learning the hard way) and posting this link on my build, FO SHO!

PS> Mine, inside, were REALLY OVERGREASED, ... .not only that, they had a compromised start gasket on one side and the bearing missing.. SO I used ROT's trick and VOILA! Missing bearing ball replaced! (Credit to rustEd, he told me that ROT had done this).... I'm going to soak the clutch/pawl and larger spring(they have the most rust, only rust really) in some parts cleaner for a while... Then Come back to slap em together in a few days when I have the CV's rebooted, one rotor replaced with lifetime warranty and so on....(IOW, when I'm ready to go)...and then I'll use this, FOR SURE, to help get em ready for assembly/install. (I WILL NOT use too much grease, ... read every post.)

My before and afters don't show how bad they were inside... FULL OF hay, RTV chunks, etc. But they seem to roll fine/smoothly... Just curious if you think I need to pull the whole hub apart...(Left the spline/roller section in)>> they seem to be clean.....but I think in using so much parts cleaner to flush em I've left the lower most stuff's dryer than they should be? >>>>

Chef, thats a GREAT idea using the bottles as a paint stand! i made the mistake of using the foam crap that is used to pack large objects like TVs... yea, just an FYI, that crap melts and smells bad... LMAO! lessons learned when i was "young" hehehe...

Excellent timing on this , I have some aisin hubs to replace the warn hubs on my 4RNR

 

beauty! I have some donor hubs on a parts truck I just bought, out with add and in with these. I'm going to powder coat per wabbits suggestion, hopefully my wife likes the smell of cooking hubs in the oven.

 

Rebuilt mine today thanks to this thread!

 

jw will this work on a t100? sorry i found this surfing TN and is it easy as the pics say and can i use warn hubs ?

 

T100 hubs are the same, warn hubs don't use cone washers they have dowel pins, I prefer the asins but it's personal preference. Aisin are easy to rebuild, they don't stick out as far as warns, they have less turning radius to lock in than warns. You can find a used set of aisins for under $100, cheap to rebuild.

Is the spline count the same for 1989 and 1990? I have 1990 3.0 with ADD and the Pick a Part lot has a 1989 with 3.0 and Aisin Manual Hubs. I think they're about $35 each, and if they'll fit, I may have to grab em up. If I do, this excellent write up will be very helpful. Thanks to the OP!!
