Anyone here install one in their truck? just wondering how easy/hard is was and what the total cost was?

 

I did it, it wasnt that hard. But my 22re did not create enough vacuum to move the truck up any sort of hill. Audiovox, by the way. I added a vacuum pump which is used by the 22re stock cruise system. I pulled mine off an MR2, I think any pump would work if you needed the extra vacuum. having an auto makes it more useful and a little easier without having to hook up a clutch button. Since your truck is also an 89 you wont have to install the drive shaft sensors.

How much did this end up costing? I'm looking into to doing this on my 22RE. I have been driving it to work since the weather has been crappy here and the roads are really salty and I haven't been driving my good car. Well the drive is basically 35 miles straight east on a 4 lane highway. Cruise control would make it a more comfortable drive. But if it is too expensive, I'm not going to bother.

I put an AudioVox cruise control in my VW. You can add a vacuum cannister to improve the operation at low vacuum conditions:

I run the stock vacuum operated cruise control in my '85. It works OK, I added a cannister to it and that allowed the cruise to pull down to around 2" Hg. engine vacuum.

 

that extra canister is more of a acts like a capacitor for vacuum. It can't actually increase vacuum. I have the canister too, and it helps for a second or two, but for sustained uphill drags, I needed the pump. I must have "sucky" vacuum, but the pump I got is a toyota stock vacuum pump so apparently toyota knew tehy would need these. If I were to do it again, I would buy a non vacuum controlled cruise control, but they cost $200 or so.
