A question for you guys. Does anyone know the fitting size for the 22re AC compressor on a 88 4runner? I did the conversion but the rear hi pressure adapter is tall and will not let me get the hose onto the fitting to get freon in the system.

I found out there are 90 degree adapters.
I am looking at the bottom two on this page

But i am not sure which one i need. This is the last thing i need to remedy before i can finally have cold air.

Is the rear the low pressure? I forget already. Thanks. I went to NAPA yesterday and they want $18 for the stupid fitting.

 

Dan - I'm not sure which one is the low side, I'm at work right now and the 4runner is at home otherwise I'd go look. I remember it was difficult to get to and the hose from the R-134 bottle just barely reached. We purchased the conversion kit from Autozone I think and the little fittings that it came with did not have the 90 deg, so then we had to order the one I posted. It's never as easy as it seems is it?

 

By the way, when we did the conversion the truck was my brothers, now it is mine. I wanted to mention that we did not do anything other than put the fitting on and charge it up, no vacuum and no changing of parts. It worked fine for a few weeks, but then all the 134 leaked. We ended up tracing it to a part on the evaporator inside the truck (I believe the part is the expansion valve) and we changed it, recharged and again it worked...this time for a few months. It still has a slow leak somewhere. Now that the truck is mine I plan to replace the drier and put a bigger condenser on it and really get the ac working...it's very important here in FL.

 

Yeah i loved my AC in Florida. IT wasnt that bad at first here, but i wanted to get it working. I already changed out the expansion valve and the dryer. I have the manifold and will borrow my buddys vaccum pump. It is that stupid fitting to get to. Where at in South Florida? I was in Cape Coral/Fort Myers.

 

Sounds like you are all set then on your AC. I don't drive the 4runner very much, so I haven't cared too much about the AC. I live in Fort Lauderdale, so I'm over on the east coast. It was 100 degrees here earlier this week, tied our all time record. So you are planning to vac the system...I need to get my hands on a vac pump, I really want to do the ac right this time.

 

I rented a vac pump for my system when I recharged mine a few weeks ago. I think it was like $205 after tax at autozone, but you get it all back when you return the pump. Just call around to the different autozones and find which one does it. There was only one around here that rented them out.

 

I never thought of the loan a tool from Autozone. I'll check that around here and see if they have one, that is a great idea, thanks.
