About to pull the trigger on an 88 ex cab
Hey everyone. Im looking to get a truck but have limited funds. I found a guy who was willing to trade my 01 Outback for his 88 extended cab.
From his classified ad:
"1988 Toyota 4x4. It only has 129,000 miles on it. 22r 4 cylinder engine. 4 speed manual transmission. Fiberglass bed, new tires and muffler. Truck came from California. Has a newer paint job with a little surface rust on front fenders."
He was asking for 4,500 for the truck. Now with us swapping cars he wants an additional 1000.
Its a pretty mint looking body and the interior is fine. Im also pretty sure it has a 22re inside of it not a 22r. He swears its in great running condition.
I know im not giving you guys much to work with but do you think its a fair deal for both of us? I cant figure out how to get many images of the truck to resize because they are too big but Id be happy to email them to someone if they want to take a look.
I hear these old babies are workhorses and can put a ton of miles on them I just dont want a money pit on my hands.
Thanks for the help. As a money strapped college kid I really appreciate any advice I can get.

wow first one of this gen ive seen with a 4 speed. Something seems off about the truck but it looks awesome. I wouldnt give him any cash, your outback is worth more. I bought an 03 outback with 193k and sold it for 6800...

Would you say a vehicle for vehicle swap is fair then?
I just need to figure out how to talk this guy down...

I dont know really, it almost too clean, if that makes sense. It could just be because i never knew those came with a 4 speed, so thats throwing me off. What do you value your outback at? I would say straight up is the most id give the guy.

The truck had a repaint so it does look freakishly clean.
Im fine making the trade but need to figure out how to get the dude to ease up on how much he values the truck.

Probably, but i would make sure its original, because if it's not thats how youll be able to drive the price down. And if it is a 4 speed, i dont know that i would want it personaly, but thats just me.
