Either that or the guy doesnt know what he's talking about. The only manual trans that came with a n/a 22r in 88 was the w56

IMO you shouldn't pay him 1000 to trade a 01 for an 88. i would trade straight up. if he wants you to pay it kinda shows that he doesn't really want to sell the truck, he loves it too much and on the 4 speed thing i bet its just a typo the 4 and the 5 are right next to eachother

Or a G54.... If it was a 22R, it was a G54, if it was a 22RE, then it was a W56 trans.
